you are right, they should not fall into the trap of offering more options so a wider variety of player will want to play their game. good call there buddy

There will be D3 for people like you who wants an easy, non-competitive game. Dumbing down the game systems for D3 fanboys is not a good idea. Because that would make competitive players look for something else. And those D3 fans will stick with D3 no matter what. It's a LOSE-LOSE sitiuation.

Who's nearest to an item that drops/who has the lowest ping/who notices it first/who clicks it first isn't very interesting "competition." It's more of just an annoying game mechanic that there's already a fix for. Competition between other players is what PvP is for.

Also, for those who are saying "that's how it is in real life," it isn't really. If there's a group of people trying to get from point A to point B without dying they're gonna do what's best for the party and allocate items accordingly so that they don't die. It's hard to re-create this mentality in a game because....it's not real.

There's nothing realistic about a marauder hoarding staves then turning to the mage player and saying "dude, I need these for my sorc."

I never understood your attitude of “it has to be my way for everyone”. I am not saying do away with FFA I am saying give players the option. If you are afraid that 90% of the people will pick no FFA loot then the choice is obvious the fans don’t want it and that’s something the company should listen to. Any smart business man will go with 90% over 10% any day of the week but even given that I still say give the choice. When I played DAOC a lot they had regular servers and open pk servers. I would play on both as sometimes I wanted to sit back and just play the game in a casual way then other times I wanted the rush of knowing the guy hunting near me could suddenly fire an arrow my way. I will repeat what I have already said many times in this thread, the smart move is to give the option so you can make a wider range of people happy. More people = more money = better game.

Just like on the Diablo forums your bliz fanboy comments hold no weight. You are way off base with them and simply try to use them as a means to elevate yourself higher than me and anyone else you slap that label on. You are better cause you like to item grab? Your competition is seriously getting items that drop on the ground faster than someone else? Maybe you should set your bar a little higher
Whatever... It's obvious developers know what's best for their game. They are the designers.

those 2 things dont really relate. just ask the makers of hellgate london. whats best for their game is to make money so listening to their potential fans should factor into that alot, even more so for a new company

I hope those fans are not just a few people here who want own-drop system.

Path of Exile is a hardcore game and shared loot has no business being in it imo. Shared loot and other carebear features undermine social networking and trade - the very things that hardcore gamers loved in Diablo 2.

Furthermore, the developers could quite easily implement a loot theft counter that would fit in well with the Path of Exile theme:

Simply block town portal spells for 1 minute after a major boss has been taken down and allow players to declare themselves hostile on the spot during this time. Any item from the original boss drop would continue to drop from players carrying it if they are slain during the minute in question. That way the first person to grab loot is not guaranteed to be the one taking it home.

Coincidentally, this counter would facilitate social networking and trade even more.
any reason why everyone in favor of FFA loot is against the option for non FFA loot be it seperate servers or a party option?

I don't see how this helps promote the idea of partying together. If I knew that the other members of my party would turn hostile towards me after killing a boss, why would I want to join them? I think this just encourages people only the play with people they know even more.

What if someone doesn't want to play PvP? If they pick up a good drop now they don't have a choice because someone might attack them. Nothing was more irritating in D2 than when some schmuck came running by PKing. I would want to play to slay baddies and find loot.

Plus, there's still issues with the strong just keep getting stronger and the weak don't improve (because anything good is taken from them by a stronger char). While it is an interesting idea, I don't seen how it would help promote people working together.

We take our fans' opinions seriously, and are discussing solutions that allow us to still retain the tension whilst solving the very real problems of ping disadvantage and ranged characters being too far away from the drop location.

Ah well, I guess if the developers know best you have to agree with them that there are problems with FFA loot being biased towards some people and accept whatever compromise they come up with for looting.
