Loot
The problem with making it Optional, is it is no longer a game-problem. If you have the option, then you simply choose the option that is more likely to have you win.
Yes everyone is going to choose to have no FFA loot, because it is safer and easier. It's like if you had an option pop up "kill all monsters on screen and pick up all loot". Eventually everyone will skip over the entire game because its easier. Everybody these days is brainwashed into thinking that fun = easy. Fun = achievement, and achievement comes from struggle. Furthermore If people have an option then playing with the option FFA loot on is basically playing with a disadvantage, and thats not fair to the players that DO want to play with FFA loot. THATS why there is that mentality. I'm all aboard for an entire server that is set to FFA or not FFA loot, but im afraid an in-game switch isnt going to cut it. |

Yeah maybe a server that has FFA loot. I don't know. I guess I'm just a crackpot for enjoying it ??

" Hasn't maby 3-4 people in this thread alone said they want FFA loot? So you find those people and you group with them using FFA loot mode, you can fight over everything as much as you like. " How is FFA loot a disadvantage now? You might be real good at picking loot and get more gear than someone in another group who has non-FFA loot on. You now have more loot and you say your at a disadvantage? " I enjoy a struggle, but much of this is about luck, you need a certain amount of luck to get a good drop, then you need to be lucky enough to be clicking where the item drops before another party member clicks there. My fun comes from having a massive boss fight where i have to use skill and strategy to take him down, and the loot is my reward for doing so. |

" Umm .. because my loot can be seen by everyone and I can only see my own? Maybe we should be clear on exactly how you would see this "option" implemented. |
|
" It would be as a party option. Everyone in your group will be under the same loot rules so what you've said won't happen. <Dregs of Theopolis>

" This is what I was thinking also. Both option types would have to have the same amount of loot dropping to maintain balance. It's just in one case the loot will be evenly distributed, and in the other some people will be able to grab more loot while the rest pick up less. |

I was thinking about this issue, and had a couple ideas for some alternatives.
1. What about using a system where everyone was given a copy of the item dropped? This way, there isn't an issue of ping and/or ranged vs. melee on who can click on the item first. 2. What if there was something in place that would randomly assign the item(s) dropped to a/the player(s) in a group? I say random purposely as in there wouldn't be a pattern in who the item(s) are assigned to. This way, the ping and ranged vs. melee issue isn't there. I kind of like the 2nd idea better. It still has the FFA, cut-throat feel to it, but it is no longer an issue with ping and ranged vs. melee getting the drops. Trading would still be encouraged amongst groups (maybe there could be a window with the names of the items and descriptions, kind of like in WOW) so you could see what your party members were getting. This way, if an item dropped that you were interested in, you could still see it and attempt to trade for it. In since 0.8.0

No one seems to understand the adrenaline rush you get from pressing alt and seeing that colored item name bouncing to the floor.

" I could almost see # 2 is being a possibility, but #1? are u kidding me? ahhhhh /facepalm / |

rather than just FFA, limit how many items a person can grab based on number of people in party... so maybe in an 8 player party, you can only pick up 5 items per area for higher level areas, and then people have to think about what they're going to take
