Loot

I think instanced 'only seen by you' (D3 style) loot sucks. It makes no sense, caters to the lazy who can't be bothered to look at what is on the ground, and removes the fun of watching a good item drop for your group.

I LOVE the way PoE has done the loot timers, which lets the entire party see all the loot, yet still gives people time to grab stuff in a fair, yet slightly random fashion. I wouldn't change a thing EXCEPT to maybe add a 'remove loot timers' option for the party leader if it bugs people that much. Avoid instanced loot at all costs!

Also: If you don't play with A-holes, people will generally be happy to share loot with you if you ask nicely, even if they picked it up first.
Is it outdated though? It's not free for all anymore. The first post was AGES ago. It's a timed loot system. Each piece of loot is assigned to a player and they have a few seconds to pick it up before it goes FFA. It's a newish take on loot dropping, not at all "outdated" by any means.

And I personally think the entire loot system in D3, dropping and inventory both, hold the players' hand far too much. Blizzard marketed its game to a generation of Farmville veterans. The loot in D3 is horrid. The dropping system in D3 is stupid. Wow. I get my own loot. That... makes sense...? Sure, it changes the pacing, and I think the times on the timed loot system in PoE will be tweaked to work within this, but I hope to GOD there is no instanced loot system.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I'd regret supporting the game if that happened, but I'd hate to see it go down the Zynga road.

Doesn't really matter whether it makes sense or not if it is more fun.

Games like these are all about social experiences, but it is hard to convince yourself to play with other people if you're having to fight over loot. Ultimately what can end up happening is that people only play with people they know in real life or they know they can trust from other games. That is the biggest game killer I can think of.

It's not.

Not being able to see the drops of the people you're playing with is silly and annoying.

It's like /ignoring someone in chat, but still having to witness other players chat with that person. Or something.

People have different feelings about what is fun. For some gamers, anything that takes away from immersion is taking away from the fun. For some, friendly competition is fun.

I think it's a good idea to use as a motivation to show how cut-throat the world is. If the issues with ping and players being different distances from the drop location I would be perfectly okay with it.

I agree.

I completely dislike the "only I can see my drops" approach. I find it very disconnecting to the world/other players. I enjoyed the original D2 approach. It was a terrible day when my awesome drop was stolen by some noob and it was an awesome day when I found a Windforce that some noob left behind.

These high's and low's make memorable experiences, you have to take the good with the bad. All good is just boring.

I think you were the noob for picking up the WF ;p

Allocated loot is infinitely better. No conflicts within parties over drops means the focus stays on the task at hand, slaying monsters. My vote would be for two options, FFA for playing with friends, and allocated for pubbies.

Why is it annoying to not see another players drops? The only reason I can see this as annoying is if you want to be able to snag anything good that drops. This is exactly the problem with FFA systems, greedy bastards feeling that every drop belongs to them.

When you're playing in a party, you're in it together. Part of that is being able to share in the excitement of another player getting a great drop. Part of that is being able to see a boss or boss chest explode into a thousand drops. Part of that is being able to see you weren't the only one getting crap drops all along.

Also, (semi) FFA means you can actually ask another player if they wouldn't mind giving a certain drop to you if they don't care for it and you do.

Thanks for being so short-sighted as to think that all players in favour of (semi) FFA are just greedy bastards. I certainly am not.

You still get the same feeling from a boss or chest with loot spilling out... the difference is you don't have to speed click on everything to get try to get anything in a pubby game. The majority of people in favor of FFA are greedy bastards, the others play with friends/guildies and the like.

FFA is not conducive to public games. Even amongst friends it can breed hostility. I really dislike the timers, I would rather simply have FFA as I feel they are a step in the wrong direction.

You can still share in someones excitement about a drop if you are so inclined because they are going to say something about it if it is so great. I see no benefits in seeing other peoples drops. I see no drawbacks from individual loot. I have heard arguments against it, but they are very very weak arguments at best. This is by far the best option for public grouping, hands down.

Personally, myself and friends would probably use it while playing together as well just to avoid any potential conflict over a sweet drop.

D2 had FFA, because no other loot option existed at that time.

Guess what loot system D3 has? Right, personalized loot. They got rid of the annoying stuff like spamming pots, gimping chars and (drumroll) FFA looting.

FFA looting sucks big time, i am totally against it. And it is the reason i just play solo 99% of the time.

FFA looting kills fairness and keeps ppl from grouping. Get rid of it, please.

I totally agree 100%!!!

If it is FFA I will only play solo cause I don`t wanna argue with the other players. For example I grouped up with another person. He was a Templar, I was a witch with ranged spells. Guess who's got the good items? I could have asked him if he wanna share, but I just wasn't in a mood to do that...
