Loot
I think the big problem here is everyone is missing the point entirely. The concept of FFA loot is a HUGE part of the entire "cut-throat, wild-west, lawless, whatever adjective u want to throw at it" idea. If you cant handle knowing a player like me is gunning for some drop, then imagine I'm an AI mob in the game who does it. Hell, make the hirelings grab items if no one is in the party for all I care. Having risky drops is a huge part of the entire mood and feeling of this. Like seriously, saying you don't want ffa loot is basically saying you dont want to play this game. Re-read the description I think maybe??
Really, the ffa loot system is the biggest most influential piece that gives the game the atmosphere it is going for. If you take it out, it ruins the entire concept. If you make it optional, than u ruin the game for those who play it for its concept. Sorry, but if you dont like the idea then no maybe this is not the game for you. I would really like to see a game that has this attitude. Instead of trying to change the game concept to fit your own style, I suggest trying it and if you dislike it, finding a different game. There are enough games out there that fit everyone's description that dislikes ffa loot. Go play one of those and let us have ONE SINGLE real free for all unscripted hardcore game for christ sakes. |

no one is saying take it out people are just asking for the choice
" Why couldn't you, and those that really want FFA loot just enter your own instanced area or game with the FFA loot option enabled? It just sounds to me like you want to jump into people's games and steal their hard earned rewards, frustrating them at the same time, otherwise you shouldn't have a problem with it if it's optional. Just choose the Free for all loot option and there is no difference for you! | |
" But that "worry" is part of the game, part of the challenge. Something that you need to overcome. If you do something without facing any "worry", then it is BORING. " It IS different for me. Because it means that everyone else is essentially "cheating" by not having to deal with something that I do. To clarify, this is the equivalent of having the option to choose whether or not to lose EXP when you die. Nobody is going to choose to lose EXP when you die if you can choose not to. But losing EXP when you die is supposed to be a penalty to both balance and make the game interesting by making you fear death. In that same sense, FFA loot and people stealing your items is a way to balance ganging up on monsters and making you FEAR the other players.-Thus contributing- to the "cut-throat" universe. " AGREED! |
" Not true, since the same amount of items is handed out by the game, the only difference between FFA and shared loot is the distribution. Fair or unfair distribution. EXP loss is a penalty everyone gets, and can be a good thing to keep everyone focused. |
" How does that have any relevence whatsoever? " People stealing your items is a risk everyone has to take, keeping everyone focused. |
" Since for a part of the people FFA loot is actually a blessing instead of a penalty since they get more loot? I think that is clear right? |
" Who is this 50% group? It doesnt matter who actually got the loot, they all took the same risk in the first place. By that logic you could say that EXP penalty would be unfair because the players who never died didnt have to worry about it. |
" I already changed the 50% to a part, since it isn't actually 50%, just the one guy who fucks the rest by not fighting monsters and just holding alt. The logic is that the focus on holding alt and clicking on items doesn't require skill (at least not the kind of skill I value). The focus on fighting monsters and not dieing in the progress is something I consider to be important in this game. |
" That makes sense. It's just not a big deal IMO and there are ways to deal with it. Holding alt and standing near a boss monster whilst not fighting is one sure way to get yourself killed. Stop attacking and let him die first. If you're in a game with many people, and someone continues to kill the boss monster for you, then dive in and get the items before he does. The important thing is the sub-concious effect that happens when u saw the flash of an epic rare hit the floor, and someone else got it. It makes you crave to try harder (probably on your own next time), its similar to the way slot-machines work to make you think you almost won. It means addictive gameplay, and people get hooked on that, which in turn means populated realms. |
