Loot
i really dont think a game like this ever has a winning or losing situation. maybe thats why i take my ARPG alot more casual than you do and go FPS for my compitition. might just be a personal difference we have. i think you can have a winner/loser in agreed upon pvp games but i have yet to see a ARPG with one of those thats any good. what i mean by good is alot of players in one game. no monsters or anything, just the players and a big playground to kill each other in.
i personally dont see dying as losing and i dont see getting a great item as winning. maybe the only other instance of win/lose i feel with this type of game is in hardcore characters. i am winning til i die which is clearly a lose. if i max the char i "won" |

Looting options would be welcome however i'm not opposed to free for all, I actually enjoyed trying to be the quickest to grab an item and fealt a moment of accomplishment when I was, the use of triggers or mods to autoloot are a pain but as long as the game is worthwhile who really cares?

" I'd like to point out the recent influx of people who are in favor of ffa Loot. I think the anti-ffa loot crowd may be losing majority :) |
|
how does the crowd who wants the option stand? first?

" I don't think there has been an official poll or anything. |

" Problem is, if it is only FFA loot, many people won't like it, and many people won't play it, thus many people won't buy it and the game will turn out much less successful than it could have been if they'd just spent a little extra time programming another option. It's a simple thing that will please many, many people and just help the game be that much more successful. Having the option for alternate loot distribution is just a win/win situation. That's why I can't believe it's being debated. | |
Ya, I wouldn't be surprised if a roll/master looter option was implemented for groups.

I must confess I didn't read the 12 pages of discussion on the subject, sorry about that. But I'll leave my opinion anyway.
I'm all for the hardcore, cut-throat style, even if it affects loot. As long as I can kill who ever tries to steal what I, for any reason, consider mine ;) Seriously, most people get pissed off easily at this kind of thing, but it just adds flavor (a hot spicy flavor) to the game. Look at Ultima, EVE and similar games where your hand isn't being held all the time. The unpredictability of the behavior of the other players make the experience unique every time. Who can I trust? Where am I safe? People just get too attached to virtual items. I look at it a in a different way? Maybe I lose an item to a thief, but I just made an enemy. I now have a nickname I can write down and just roll with it, try to get my vengeance, get my guild on his ass while his clan tries to defend him, scalating into our tiny little private war. Nothing personal, just another way to make the game fun and interesting. Think about it: get robbed, try to kill robber, make an enemy, play watching my back all the time after that, get killed by him and his friends when they decide to get revenge, get my corpse looted, go for my vendetta, roleplay the bad blood between characters, etc. Option 2: kill monster. get item. equip item. go for next monster to get next item and equip it. repeat a thousand times, get bored of the game. |

" I like your position. This is what I'm talking about. :D |
