Making two separate games out of your live service game is making me want to play neither.
It honestly might turn out to be simplified SilentSymphony but i don't think that is automatically bad depending on the scale of it. PoE currently is a spaghetti junction of systems interposed on each other in a way that sorta works but doesn't have any coherence.
Most players don't know to what degree because most players don't actually interact with that much of the game. They could simplify a great deal of this and most players wouldn't know they would just think it was better even if it lost some functionality. It could be much more complex and diverse as well though due to a full balance reset, the weapon swaps was pretty pog already I could do a full ranged+melee hybrid with that on the existing PoE1 tree that is pretty exciting and also pretty deep (it might not work for different weapon types no idea). I think way too many players are going full tilt about this when they should just be much more even keeled - I get not liking it in principle but i'd wait until its out and give it a go maybe it'll be better than you think, it might even be better than what many players currently want it to be but they don't realise it yet. |

" Were the people sitting on the panel not all zoomers? they seemed pretty darn happy to me. " Maybe its just the end of the road for me, I am from the days of more complex games than most of what is released now in terms of player agency. a dagger was a dagger and a short sword was not a long sword neither was a two handed sword a long sword, and shields came in more than one type! Don't get me started on pauldrons and actual-pants. Innocence forgives you Last edited by SilentSymphony on Jul 30, 2023, 12:27:42 PM

" You realize that just getting 1000 chaos orbs is better gameplay than looking at 1000 individual rare rings. Do you realize how much time away from gameplay looking through items takes? How much that kills how good the game feels? I played D4, I know how much looking at items sucks the ever living joy out of the game. The fact PoE you just care about buying items or crafting them is actually amazing. It means your gameplay is more gameplay and less standing around looking at items. If PoE2 makes it so I actually want rare items on my filter, that's an instant turn off for me. I want to go go go, play the game, not stand around reading text on items to see if they're good. This is not a casual ARPG you play once, this is something you grind for ages. I love how PoE2 is literally made for people that don't like PoE, pointing to you not playing this league. If you change how we experience the game, that's why you're forced to make PoE1 available and split your playerbase, which will only hurt the game in the long run and makes me feel less confident you will maintain the game as your one true forever game. Which it no longer is. Simply put, if you make a sequel to your game, I have no reason to invest more than 500 hours into it because all my hard work could be invalidated by your releasing another sequel instead of carrying this game forward forever. |

" players were literally deceived. bait and switched. i usually am more reserved when it comes to spending money in video games. why? coz i know when the life cycle is over, all will be for naught. i bought d1/d2/d3/d4. i NEVER ONCE expected that my character/progression/gear would transfer over to the next game. similarly its why i dont spend so much buying mtx in other games. maybe i dump some money but its just a small sum. my interest in POE was actually waning. as was my interest to purchase mtx. melee sucked for me. but i still stuck around to see what would happen. exilecon 2019 happened. poe2 was announced and teased. GGG announced that it was an ADDITION to POE 1. no one forced them to announce this, but they did. the details were, all our gear, characters, mtx and anything purchased would carry over to POE2. we could play poe1 or poe2 campaign and still end up in the same shared endgame. this meant that if i kept playing poe, my progress would not be for nothing. this meant if i supported GGG, it would help them have more resources to let me play this additional content. but no we were DECEIVED. sure one may argue that milestones change. directions changed. its 5 years since then. many decisions were made. but these decisions were kept hidden from us. we who supported GGG did so thinking it would help fund additional content for poe1 via poe2. poe2 was supposed to fix and improve poe1. now its revealed its not. then all our good will was funneled into a game we did not want. when ruthless was announced, interest in ruthless was not too high. i had literally ZERO interest in ruthless. how blindsided were we to support ggg for so long. we trusted that ruthless is just a side project that truly did not take up poe1s resources. of course not. poe1s resources were set to minimal while most of it went to poe2. " what we have now is an illusion of complexity. we have a skill system with all these support gems, and all they do is basically add more damage which means that only 1 or 2 of our skills ends up being viable because of limited 6 links. so we have tons of skill gems, weve added links and tons of supports and they have done almost nothing to make the skills more interesting in practice and instead just restricted us down to 1 or 2. the support gem system is incredibly complex on paper and actually it just reduces the game complexity where it actually matters. i can make a reave build, cold covert, pure phys, a poison dot version, fire, burn, i can do it with daggers, with swords, claws, crit, non crit, each one using a whole load of different gems... every single one of them will play the same. its exactly the same thing, i press a button, reave hits the whole screen and everything is dead. theres no difference at all, the entire system is a sham. in poe2 theyre taking away damage from supports and making them actually change how skills function, giving us 9x 6links and ways for skills to work together. thats not an illusion of complexity, its actual complexity resulting in a much more interesting and diverse way to build and play our characters. " replica shroud, an incredibly niche item. who says its meant to work for 1h weapons? was this designed for the poe2 system? i found my first koams in open beta 2013. why did this item exist back then? you realise now squire exists? along with supported by weapons people are running 6-12 links with 1h weapons having the gems in the weapons. i get that ur angry about the game being split but i just dont rly get what ur trying to say with any of this. " so you dont want to find loot in an arpg? ok, your entitled to your take. just trade then, no ones forcing you to have loot on your filter. " i have somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 hours /played in this game, over $1000 supported. ive been known to trade and buy items myself from time to time. i do however still enjoy the idea of finding loot in an arpg, im not sure that means i dont like poe. " And I certainly hope that doesn't change. " I don't mean to put you on the spot but I already looked at your account in a previous post and the last time you had any number of challenges that indicated significant play time was in Breach league, 7 years ago. You haven't even touched the game since 3.17. I'm glad you have more money than me to buy more supporter packs though, I guess that makes you more important. Of course you don't care about just starting over a new game, you haven't spent several years gathering 40/40 totems and dedicating yourself to each league that was released. The don't like PoE comment was not exactly about just the finding items, but literally what you exemplify perfectly. You haven't even played PoE leagues recently and you've probably spent more time defending this decision to sequel stab our game in the gut than you have invested time in POE in the last year+. So yeah that's exactly who PoE2 seems to be for, people that aren't invested in the current PoE we love. I enjoy finding loot just fine FYI. Loot doesn't need to mean reading thousands of yellow square boxes a day. Last edited by albert2006xp on Jul 31, 2023, 10:45:45 AM

" Stop being so dramatic! You're sad and angry about something that hasn't happened yet, will not happen for another 1,5-2 years and might be very different by the time comes. Plenty of time to enjoy the game for what it is: a game. Everyone seems to think their way of playing is in the majority because of the echo-chambers they visit, and therefor think their way of playing demands special attention from GGG. The loud minority is very true for PoE, sadly. ... also yes, money does matter; it's a company, not a good-will store created to give you your dream game for free. While critical mass is definitely a thing, so is the audience that fund the majority of the game. |

" 1.5-2 years is not that long. If you know something bad is going to happen in 2 years, that's still bad. You don't have to wait for it to be upset. Not to mention all the confidence I have to work to get 40/40s done in leagues and play this game because it will be here for a long time is now gone. Because I know there's going to be a sequel replacement, there's going to be a possibility where PoE is just put on life support and only a niche community plays it anymore. If you just play it as a casual game, then yeah, it's fine. If you play it like it's a forever game, a WoW, where your achievements, your experiences and your knowledge will be there forever, then it's not fine. You all seem fine to shit on people like me and so does GGG with making a sequel. |

" Did i type "Replica" anywhere? 100% im talking about the base version they changed, massive buff for bows and huge nerf for 1handers basically making the chestplate unuseable for a ton of builds, this change wouldn't be a problem if the two games were merging.. but they are not. it was a problem before because i had to (deal with not being able to use it for ???? months/years) but now its a REALLY BIG problem becasue they aren't merging so the change is completely destructive in its nature, it empowers the already broken and curbstomps the already weak unless you use a Squire which is a chase-item. New socket system = annoyed but i can wait No new socket system = build is gone forever. (for nothing) I'm so glad the bow users got to be infinitely stronger now, a 1% per jewel scale went to like what 4% per jewel with more jewel sockets? You'd have to be looking the other way to miss this. I got this stupid tormentor supporter pack because i thought GGG was gonna deliver, i busted out my oldest build i had been saving since the early days when mechanics were freaking "purple monsters" and they gutted the core item, I will not just say oh well at such a terrible decision reflective of a lack of game knowledge.
