Remove the chaos res penalty.
" That could be an easy "fix" to your current woes, but I believe the entire nature of the chaos changes are a bit I'll conceived and the debate will still go on, just with the game a bit easier to play. Devolving Wilds

" Um. No. Being able to reach 0 with one item is pointless. |

" Clearly the Elemental penalties on Cruel are also pointless. A good roll can negate the Merc penalty almost entirely (30+20% on a Ring). Pointless. |

" No since elemental damage is balanced around you having capped resists or being close at least while chaos damage is balanced around you having 0%. Yes it is stupid but thats how it is. |
|
" Chaos is not an element. As others have said, the game is not based around the assumption you'll have max resist to chaos. |

Personally i think they have overplayed the whole res thing as a difficulty mechanic, i would like to have seen less res penalty and maybe 10- 15 % increased mob sizes with slightly less xp reward per unit. I think it is more fun to wade through enemies than to have to dick around worrying about this or that res. Chaos damage is,at current rate, OP against most classes- why not halve the penalty for choas res and reduce merc elemental res penalty to 45%? If you combine this with larger mob sizes (ele mobs can already be quite large) you still have a challenging encounter when you meet ele or chaos mobS, but the encounter is no longer so res gear dependent.

Honestly I think it's a bit silly that with the availability of chaos resists, health is often a more viable counter to chaos then bloody chaos resist.
The problem with reisst percentiles is that they have heavy increasing returns. going from -60% chaos resist to -52% barely modifies survivability, whereas the same 8% bringing you from 67% to 75% is an enormous increase in survivability. The Result being the effects of chaos resist are only really worth the investment if you can obtain very large quantities of it- a difficult proposition in the current setting. -60% is just way too much- the amounts of chaos resist you need to stack to adaquately defend via resistance is too high. Honestly I think people worry too much about chaos becoming "just another element". At the end of the day it's itemization is still far rarer then the other resistances and chaos is the only damage type to pierce energy shields. Talisman softcore IGN:disappointment

I completely agree. I'm only in Cruel and Chaos is killing me more than anything. An easy solution? Add Chaos resistance to things that buff "all elemental resistances" and rename those nodes "all resistances." As it stands, only having two 8% nodes and a 16% node spread far and few between on the passive skill grid is ludicrous when it's the most deadly type of damage in the game.
