No respec options? No thanks.
A full respec quest on each difficulty, that cannot be saved up (Also no way to do the quest once you get to the next difficulty). That way you have very few respecs and you cant make unlimited mistakes, but the feature is very much there. Orbs of regret will still be very useful as they can fix minor errors and so will the other quest rewards that give you refund points. Just an idea.

Even though I don't think even unlimited respecs will do any harm for the game, I personally am fine with only one full(free!!) respec per character. Since for me respec is more of a fixing process rather than "try every build possible with one character", few or just 1 full respecs per character would eliminate most of the problems with ruined characters.
Also it would be fun to just jump into a game without "study" and freely put skill points in a wacky way even knowing that you have the option to fix it later if you wish. It simply postpones the studying aspect, which I usually don't feel like doing when starting a new character, I just want to play. I think that would increase the fun factor a lot |

I'll tolerate one free full respec for ONE of your character per account...
in that way it permit you to "fail" your first character without betraying the concept of thinking to your build before the leveling process begin... ... nothing

" +1, very good idea to offer a "rebuild" for a single (the first?) char only - if you screw more then one, its your own fault. ;) And would also keep the purpose of regrets as single node "rubbers" (against little mistakes) invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

" Why is it so important to think your build perfectly before leveling? Why is it so important that everyone thinks their build perfectly before leveling? Why is it so important to be so extremely strict regarding screwing up? People present these concepts like they are some kind of natural law that needs to be followed but don't truly present why such concepts should be so important in the first place |

" This I make non standard builds all the time and most (if not all my joy) comes from leveling the characters. I dont need to have the "BEST" character, so why must everyone else have the "BEST" character? Instead make a build that you want to make, and try to make the best out of it. Also I dont believe in "BEST" character, since each build have its strength and weaknesses. |

I haven't read the 1000+ posts here - I would however like to add my support for the need of a few FULL respec opportunities through the difficulties - perhaps not in HC
The HC players can go play HC - the rest of us noobs need to be able to experiment a little more easily. We don't all want to HAVE to STUDY and follow other peoples "Fail Guides". Gees guys this game is supposed to be fun for Everyone and it takes several days of hard work to get a character to a high level. It becomes very demoralizing to eventually get to level 68 and find you've totally stuffed up your build. Once the game goes into Distribution there will hardly ever be server resets giving us a full respec. And regret orbs - ag please at level 68 I've found perhaps 4 I'm BACK :)

" Yes, and 1000 other players found also about 4 orbs. Soo, buy them. I am ok with 1 full respect per character for noobs. But not more. Last edited by miljan#1261 on Apr 13, 2012, 9:17:19 AM

" Absolutely so. Arguably it will have the reverse effect and diminish longevity. Grinding for regrets or being forced to repeat content that one has already tired of is not the way to retain players. If the work vs fun equation becomes unbalanced people will walk. Oh....btw... forcing grind to achieve things does not make a game challenging it just makes it tedious. Some of the 'reasons' being offered (mainly in the no respec camp) are simply non sequiturs. I am not sure where I stand, as things are things seem a little harsh but I'm in the wait and see what they do camp. There are lots of things that could be done but at the end of the day it is a balancing act to make choices have consequences but allowing mistakes to be undone with appropriate penalty. Different rule sets for different leagues has possibilities, that could potentially keep everyone happy. Last edited by BlowFish#4051 on Apr 13, 2012, 10:03:29 AM

" Whilst I respect how you like to play you can not expect everyone else to approach games in the same way. Actually this is one of the prime reasons for conflict over games, individuals wanting to force there play style on every one else. I too enjoy playing different characters/builds from scratch too but can still see the demand for some form of respeccing. It's not necessarily about the 'best' character either btw. |
