No respec options? No thanks.

Are you saying D2 didnt have a respec?

It did not, but does now. Was added in the last couple years.
id be really interested to see a poll separated by HC/default players and how they respond to the full respecc question.

Would you say D2 is a lot less hardcore, now that you can respec in LoD?

I would say it is a lot less fun

The minute I was able to respec my pally on demand to destroy whoever wanted to fight was the day the game died unfortunately.

It would be a mistake IMO to allow huge respecs, especially if it's a paid option, as that would give certain characters the ability to respec for certain areas over and over, whereas the rest of us would have to actually be strategic about our choices to get the best overall for our playing style.

Edit: for the last poster, I hope I hinted here at why respecs would be bad. You'd have characters able to completely respec for a certain boss, or area, and then change again for something else. And the rest of us? We eigher wouldn't be able to do the same thing, or else the current strategy of the game would be largely killed. Or at least changed in a big way, if "killed" is perhaps overstating it.

In my very first post in this thread(no, I don't expect you to have read it of course lol) I stated that respecs should not be so effortless that you are tempted to use them as strategy. There are many ways to discourage people from doing that. And still, even if they were used as strategy, I don't think it would have much impact on anything. Atleast if we go by Diablo 2. Who in their right mind for example respecs a cold sorc to fire to kill a couple of cold immunes? If anything that just slows down their progress. In other words, of course I don't know how POE will turn out in the end, but I doubt there will be situations where respecing for strategy is worth it.

An arena in PoE will really stop this problem. You will have no idea what you are fighting.

At least we are in agreement there!

Current respec system is very good, not sure why people are so against it honestly. It does exactly what is needed, allows a character to easily fix some mistakes with no investment, but prevents completely changing the identity of the character without some investment. Still seems good to me.

Why? Answer is simple: Does it allow to alter larger portions of the passive tree without unreasonable effort? Quicker than leveling another character? If it doesn't, then it isn't a respec system in the sense that I picture a respec. When leveling a character is a better respec system than orb of regret something is off.

It does. It's not better to lvl a new character. Just sell few chaos and high orbs, and youl get your respect. I always stack orbs of regret to sell them to people like you.
