No respec options? No thanks.

Maybe this thread should be closed until an official DEV statement is made, cause let's face it, our speculations aren't solving anything.

The future (and GGG) will decide what our fate in this question will be.

(all these typos D:)

What is a traditional MMO in your opinion then? Only wow-clones with open worlds?
You are free to have your opinion, but you are still wrong.

As for respec, I think that everyone should get atleast one full respec either for free or for cash.
You really can't plan ahead if you have not played the game. Making a carbon copy of a build from the forums shouldn't be encouraged, but it will be the only option to make a good build if you are new to the game. If there is a respec available, making a good build on the first try won't be as important.

Guess Ill just use your approach.

Nope, you're wrong

I don't want full respecs on demand because I feel it is best for the longevity of the game, nothing else. This game will lose all replayability if a player can try everything there is to try without leveling multiple characters. It will get stale VERY fast imo.

I agree. But there the only options are not "full respec (including class change) on demand so you can try everything there is to try" or "no respec at all".

I would prefer an option to buy a full skill tree reset in the shop, that you can use once per character.

I could probably get behind that.

"Forcing" people to play isn't going to add longevity. People only do what they enjoy in a game. If they enjoy playing through the content they will do so regardless of respecs or not. If they don't, they will either try to skip the content as fast as possible like in Diablo 2 to get to the parts they enjoy, or if it takes too long to get to the parts they enjoy, they will quit playing the game. I don't believe respecs have much anything to do with longevity.

It just means if they want to make a fire witch and an ice witch they have to play through the game with both characters. Nobody is ever "Forcing" them to play, they are playing of their free will. If they don't want to level a new character... play the one you have or get orbs of regret. I am sure people will try to "rush" through much of the content on new characters just like in D2 but I am sure they will not allow such blatant leveling exploits as Chaos Sanctuary or Ubers to go from 1-80 in a matter of a few hours.

Full respecs will cause earlier difficulties to be complete ghost towns as their would be virtually no reason to ever run through the game content again. There is a reason respecs were not in D2 until the game was 10 years old, and even at that point lots of people quit playing shortly after they were introduced.

Another alternative to keep the game alive at all levels is to allow players to restart their characters at level 1 and gain some small bonus.

Like prestige or something? Could be interesting.

So why are we running through the game content at all then? If there's no other reason than...to get to the end? I just don't understand that statement

Coming back to my earlier point, if people actually enjoy the content, which is a reason to run through it, they will do so regardless of respec

Last thing I will say on this topic. Players these days want convenience above all else, even when it is not best for the game. The devs know what they are doing and I trust they will do what is best for the game.

Also just want to add I feel the current orb + quest system is perfect.
