No respec options? No thanks.

Ofcourse this is closed beta...so all characters will be wiped beginning of june...so whats the fuss....they will probably add a confirmation option before exiting the skill tree or something eventually....

Wrong.

This is what is called a difference of opinion....

This game is obviously not a traditional MMO, nor is it a traditional ARPG in some senses. Either way Full respec on demand kills the longevity of the game. Making new and potentially experimental builds is what this game is all about and if you only have to make one character and just respec it constantly to try everything than the game will get stale very fast.

Again, this is my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own... as long as it doesn't conflict with mine. lols
People are using the "you didn't evaluate your options properly", card, but let's be fair the skilltree is huge and daunting, and it takes some serious consideration and past experiences from other games to make the right choices.

I mean, could you, the first time you opened the skilltree tell that AOF was #1 OP keystone? Did anyone know that % weapon elemental dmg/burn made it op? What about crit chance not working like most other games, or that crit chance is redundant with critpots err i mean diamondflasks.

So many examples of stuff that looks like it's good, but in reality isn't. How are new players to know that claws are poop, or that mauls and axes generally trump swords?

Nobody knew that shit, and I sure as hell didn't feel like researching half a day for a build for a game that's not even in open beta.

All i want to do is to play a bit around with my character without paying an exalted to respec my shit. Don't really feel like grinding the same two acts four times over and over again to try out a niche build that may end up failing.

And this is coming from a HC gamer, not a casual one. We've moved past D2.

All this things you said are balance problems that should not be in finished game. Wee are talking here about the relesed game, where AOF will not be OP, where claws are good. I must remind you that this is beta, and things you said should be fixed on release, so peole will not have problems with it.

You are right, lost track, sorry. Besides,
Sometimes in these arguments I get the vibe that some people are almost claiming it's morally wrong to respec. Like you need punishment in games, you need to study before getting to the actual game and have fun, you need to suffer and grind and pay the price of learning from your mistakes! Because otherwise!

And how are we going to thouroughly test them all out, to find said balances, if we're stuck with what we started out with?

We are not talking here about beta, but finished game, what it should have on release. For beta, i would not be against it, but after all we get free respect every few months with new patch, and there is no better way to test the game, then to have exactly same rules the finished game will have.

What is a traditional MMO in your opinion then? Only wow-clones with open worlds?
You are free to have your opinion, but you are still wrong.

As for respec, I think that everyone should get atleast one full respec either for free or for cash.
You really can't plan ahead if you have not played the game. Making a carbon copy of a build from the forums shouldn't be encouraged, but it will be the only option to make a good build if you are new to the game. If there is a respec available, making a good build on the first try won't be as important.
