No respec options? No thanks.

I think the game could certainly use a different way to re-spec, rather than gathering the orbs of regret, or starting again. There's a massive skill tree, it takes ages just to look at, it has so many options and possibilities. I don't think I've seen a skill tree that seems to want to encourage re-specking more. And yet the game discourages it. At the very least it's a little strange, at worse maybe bad design decisions.

These games aren't based on grinding, they are based on progression. Grinding is simply what fuels your progress. Being forced to reroll a level 1 effectively destroys any progress you've made, while respeccing will retain your progress. More often than not, if you force someone to destroy their progress they have made and start over, they aren't going to start over, they are going to quit.

And this game is in closed beta, things are going to change. Having people complain about things that don't work well is going to fuel progress forward to make a better finished product, which is the entire purpose of beta testing.
At this point in a closed beta I would think that respeccing would be highly encouraged to all beta testers (like ourselves) to experiment with the various boosts and damage modifiers within the tree...

... Seems counter intuitive to not allow frequent respeccs at this stage in development.

That being said , I hope when the game is live it's a relatively painless process to respecc.

Why not just make that one of the micro transaction items ? Say 20 points to get a respecc orb ?

Respecing exists as one of the more common currency items, and if you are going to be respecing to the degree that would require more than that rerolling doesn't sound so bad since you will have the enjoyment of leveling up with the spec. AND when you're done leveling the character you have your old spec and the new one you just leveled to switch between when ever you want.
What's with all the people here. Are you gamers or pussyes? Why do you play the game, if your noob or stupid to fuck up that much your build and bored to play and lvl him, than this game is not for you. I would like that there is a noob league where people can do whatever they want.

Man im so pised with all the threads like, no blood, no gore, no dead babies, no spiders, free respect. Dont fuck up this game.

I just have to point out that I don't think this game is about "end-game" in which case respeccing would be a valid gamemechanic.

Again, that's what I think.
respecs are for kids... real gamers will just make a new char for each purpose

You know what, I'm going to be honest. I care what other people do. I care a lot. This game is about competition and epeen, not carebearing in a vacuum. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

And look, it really isn't that hard to fix screwups. People are talking like they'll need to switch 20 points or something crazy, which is highly unlikely. The only thing you can't do is totally change what kind of character you have on the fly.

But this game isn't about competition. There are games that are competitive, this is not. It's a co-operative game or single player game. There are some very "loosely put together" competitive elements like ladder, but that's beside the point. The point is that whatever competitiveness or epeen is mostly created in the heads of the player in this type of game. It doesn't really exist concretely. There's nothing wrong with that and I experience it too, but we shouldn't ommit respec because of something imagined. Having respec cannot affect something that does not exist, which is competition. So once we get over respec we are still able to imagine our epeen like usual.

lol. The quality of the anti-respec arguments are just unmatched!

Well, you are wrong. It's about endgame as much as every other mmo.
