Can't wait to see what will happen in one year...
All the nonsense in this thread is awesome.
Hardcore gamers will keep the game alive, etc...
Someone never heard of League of Legends.

Considering that Path of Exile is touted as D2's spiritual successor, and in fact the similarities are quite glaring, I would say that you're quite wrong. Very few folks played D2 for anything BUT the endgame.
Didn't you get the memo? D2 didn't have an endgame!

I think, he talks about the endless bossruns on the top end of terror; which only stayed alive and is mostly (ab)used for 1) keep gaining experience to get further in the ladder and 2) being one of the places to farm top gear.

I was being sarcastic.

It really didn't though, at least not when it came out. Some endgame was added with LoD and later patches. After playing for years running new chars obviously will get somewhat boring, since most people had several chars already.
I didn't know anyone who played D2 for years and only ever had a single character he used to farm endgame over and over, do you?

Nope. What's your point?
That if a game has an "endgame" people only have 1 character?

Not if you have a good build in the first place.
No. For PvP, you could use respec to modify your build to counter specific players.
For ladder races, you could go full glass cannon during the early levels when monsters don't hit very hard. As you get higher, you can respec to get more defensive and avoid dying.
These are just examples. Easy respecs will always give you an advantage no matter how well you plan your build.
This. It's the (ab)use of easy and unnatural adaptability. By easy, I mean the presence of easy full respecs. By unnatural I mean it has nothing to do with the player's ability.

I'd say his point is that they levelled another character. If anyone happens to find levelling characters boring, I'd suggest they find another game. In fact, probably another genre entirely.

Ahem. New information.

Some people are pretty overwhelmed by the passive skill tree. While we love what it does for the game and aren't likely to make absolutely massive changes to the layout, we're investigating a number of options that will make it much simpler for new players to understand, while not removing complexity for experienced players. We're not ready to talk about these changes yet.
Many more keystones and notables are coming - especially defensive ones soon!
The passive skill tree screen will require that the user confirm their changes before they are locked in (to prevent mistakes).
It's possible that changes will be made to the respec system. We've discussed many options which all have their advantages and disadvantages. Depending on what mechanical changes we make to the tree, some or none of these respec modifications may be needed. Regardless of what respec policy we settle on though, we want to make sure that players can't respec large amounts of their character trivially and are encouraged to start a new character if they want an entirely different build.
Please do not leave feedback in this thread saying that you want easier respecs - we know you do! Please discuss that in the Beta Feedback forum.
(Emphasis mine.)
The gods have spoken. /thread, IMO.

the confirmation is pointless IMO, that's not when you figured you made a mistake.

Would you mind clarifying what you're trying to say? Do you mean that it's pointless because you don't realise you've made a mistake until later?
If so, what about misclicks? At lower levels it's annoying to essentially waste a point and slow your build until you manage get an Orb of Regret just because you accidentally clicked. It does happen - look at people mentioning it much earlier in this thread. The confirmation's not supposed to deal with bad build decisions - they're a different kind of mistake.
