Or, and hear me out, some are just regular average people for whom this is completely irrelevant in our computer game. Not sure why you have to insult those with different oppinions than you. Sad.
Perhaps you should care less about your video game character, and more about being a decent human?
Have a good launch!
Unfortunately, the way this community tends to treat anyone who asks about this - or worse, pushes for it - are pathologically devoted to insulting anyone with a different opinion than them on this subject.
I've seen it over and over and over and over and over in this forum. People are absolutely horrible to anyone who wants gender select in their game. You never get off the first page without certain folks slinging some absolutely heinous shit. It's incredibly disheartening.

This used to be a game feature long before it became a political "problem"
yeah, even if it was just game feature, i still believe modern politics weaponized those features to push their agendas on gamers. which back then, wasn't really a thing/problem

happens also when people disagree.
like the other thread where some guy was justifying following builds and not doing your own thing. i disagree with him entirely but see no reason to shit on him, but a lot of people shat on him for some reason....

to paraphrase asmon from the top of my head
woke shit doesnt make a good game bad and doesnt make a bad game good.
the problem with woke stuff is most modern games that go woke, emphasize being woke more than making a good game. which is what gamers are tired of.
i actually dont care for woke stuff. if the game is good, it can be woke af.
a good example is baldurs gate. which is arguably the wokest game ever but we dont shit on bg3 because it is an absolute banger of a game and the woke content is organic and not forced. dont like woke? roll a straight character. want to be woke? you can do that too. wanna have sex while being polymorphed into a bear? we can do that too.
as for gender options in games, i find it natural to just let players choose their gender if the player is some nameless protagonist. whats the harm in giving us that choice?
if the game has us playing a specific named character than yeah, maybe its better to not let us choose. but we're all unnamed exiles here.

it goes deeper as well. d2r had char name restrictions on "trans", couldn't even create the name Transformer. they also nuked d2's amazon to look like a guy (before the outcry). also, one of the lead diablo 4 devs on twitter had posts about "making games more gay", which i guess isn't really a problem if they are an indie-dev, but diablo historically isn't really a game made for that "genre" of players, lol
there's also the words like master, slave, blacklist, whitelist, etc that have been used in codebases for over 17 years (diablo hellfire and RYL 2's MMO source), but now, that language is somehow bad. there's a lot of different things.
it's a function of time too, and it's only going to get worse with every generation, sadly.
you can send me a DM if you want to discuss it further on discord (mods will most likely nuke this post. already talked to chris but seems like they don't like hot topics like this on the forums)

when talking about current blizz... you're right on that. theyre kinda into DEI stuff.
i think chris's approach is "better". not talking about it at all is the better thing for companies to do. you dont offend anyone if you simply dont talk about it.
then again blizzard is a mainstream company while GGG is sitting in a weird place where they started indie and i would still say theyre indie but their game puts many AAA gaming companies to shame.
blizzard wants DEI points and would highlight their efforts.
GGG is less corporate. in fact i ve been swearing a lot in this forums but usually NOT at other players. GGG treats us as adults but would reign us in if necessary. blizzard cannot afford to do that as it wants to be seen as family friendly to its investors.
then again GGG recently updated their terms of service lol.
i really dont care for blizzard anymore tbh. back during d3 i swore off blizzard. when d4 was in development the devs kept sharing their progress and thoughts. i really felt the passion. i bought d4. its a good game but as a diablo clone it failed to meet my expectations. the devs kept making a ton of bad decisions before finally coming up with the right formula in season 4. their latest expansion with their broken ass build was the nail in the coffin. its still a good game but a bad diablo clone.
whatever happens to blizzard is no longer my concern. i m invested in the success of GGG.

yeah i am the same as you honestly. i was just trying to point out to that other user there's definitely an influence of modern politics in the gaming industry (software world, essentially). you are 100% correct, it's definitely dependent on the game company too
