POE 2: Class Gender Lock is a Step Backwards

I'm with you, but most of the people that play this type of game are neckbeards that don't really care of how they look (instead of being edgy and badass like) so we're probably barking at the wrong tree.

Or, and hear me out, some are just regular average people for whom this is completely irrelevant in our computer game. Not sure why you have to insult those with different oppinions than you. Sad.

Perhaps you should care less about your video game character, and more about being a decent human?

Have a good launch!

I've never understood why gender locking is a thing in RPGs. It's usually specifically Eastern style RPGs but I really would like to have a male counterpart to the female classes. I tend to lose emersion when I am forced to play as a female. Thankfully the classes I am more excited to play in POE2 are male.

Because every feature takes time and money to develop. They aren't wishes granted from a magical tree.

Every feature has to be considered for value derived vs cost. In POE the character model is almost top-down view, at some distance. Honestly, I believe the only reason you can not zoom out further is to make the MTX at all noticeable. You would be unable to tell gender 99% of the time. You don't even speak 1% of the time you are playing the game, so that does not impact this either (and you could mute the character).

There was a question asked back on like page 2 about what is the point of different characters and MTX, then?

Well, if you look at the character models you can see they are very different. MTX are often larger than the character itself when you consider particle effects, and are often quite vibrant. The point is, you CAN notice these - albeit, the character model gets swamped by gear and MTX to the point that it is unnoticeable past the early levels.

A gender swap would not accomplish this. Imagine the Marauder but you soften the face and curve the chest area somewhat. You would not notice past the character screen. It is very very low value to the game. The cost would be a lot more noticeable - you would have to create gender swap versions of every model and make sure the armor and MTX match up.

If I was forced to do anything about this I would simply de-tag the classes from the current models, then have the player choose the class afterwards. However, the value is still largely missing - you can choose any type of gameplay regardless of the starting class, so if you really want to play a specific gender (despite being unable to tell in game) the game does not limit how you play.

I have excactly the same =) In any game I prefer playing male. Some people say that anyone who asks for this feature is because of woke. I'm not a wokey and I never will... on the contrary... I am a guy, why would I have to appreciate playing a woman in any game? I just don't. I hope they will, at some point, bring gender pick. Cheers Aqua

put some mtx on, disable voicelines. You won't ever know. Problem solved
I would actually be happy if they will add something like that and I would also pay for it, choosing your gender on every class is a good option to consider to add to the game.

Gender locking is usual on Asia, so it could be a move by Tencent since they own the 80% of GGG

This feature this feature was in the game from the very beginning, why are you bringing Tencent into it? They just left everything as is and that's great GGG didn't follow the hackneyed trends killing POE's individuality.

It's not something that's definitely bad, it's something that you personally don't like.

Why bother to cater to a fringe minority?

What's the logical reasoning?

They could put those efforts into making the overall game better, and that benefits everyone.

Letting me play a male witch does nothing for me.

Adding new uniques and bosses makes me enjoy the game more.

Let them focus on what makes the game better for everyone. My 2c*

You're just calling it fringe minority because you are looking at it from the modern day politics standpoint, however if you look at MMOs going back for decades, men play as women for insert whatever reason. So this isn't really that much of a minority thing, in fact I'd wager half the people who spend money would probably pony up for an alt skin.

Also they make MTX constantly and it's how they make their money in general.

I get it if it's not a you thing but don't equate modern politics into this.

look at baldurs gate 3 vs 1. to think modern politics doesn't influence modern games is incorrect.

This used to be a game feature long before it became a political "problem"

i 've been suggesting this repeatedly for a while.

reason being is the models already exist, the entire discussion point on "it costs the devs more" goes out the window if we simply can choose our character models which already exist.

its a good compromise as in game cutscenes can be homogenized and have the npcs refer to the player as a generic exile.

tho the biggest problem now is the existence of transformation.

i m pretty sure GGG has worked out the transformation animations for all classes. but for infernaltits, its has a class restricted transformation which is very specific to her character model.
