POE 2: Class Gender Lock is a Step Backwards

im not a fan of it either, but GGG has stated before that 3D asset creation is their biggest task for PoE2 and eating the most resources.

Every additional bit of variation adds to that.

It's a pretty simple cost benefit, choosing gender = a ton more development for close to zero benefit and many downsides, GGG made the right call.

Do pray tell other than voice acting what exactly is the difficulty? because so far the biggest bar and cost possibly that I heard was the voice acting.
Please put some thought into it rather than say animations...

And as a bunch of us have thrown out that MTX which would earn them money would be acceptable.

Why dont you learn how to rig characters and their animations, then start rigging all of PoE's armour pieces (every, single, one) and all of the possible cast/attack animations AND the different animations that each weapon may have AAAAAND then get started on fitting the current MTX store as well.

When you're done in 50 years, come back and let us know if you think it was difficult or not.

You really have no clue what you are talking about...
Or maybe you think GGG has inept devs?...

Most of the work is done, you really think that they animate 1 gem for each class individually? At most it's 2 or 3 times (3 only if the warrior uses a different skeleton and not just an illusion by making it larger)
This rule applies to MTX/armors, etc.

Edit: I am seriously over simplifying but you are way overcomplicating.

This forum is wild about this, pretty funny reading some of the responses to people being like "it would be cool if i could choose to have a different character model in a super customizable RPG."

Like you can pick the warrior, put on a staff to throw fireballs, go on the store, buy a $200 dress with wings and rockets, buy a goblin troop to follow you around in town and blow vuvuzelas, and run around not pressing any buttons and automatically exploding magic orbs around you, but playing as a lady is a gigantic step too far XD

So you just dont understand what is written? Nobody is activily pushing against such option we just question the value of it. I see this as waste of time, money and manpower. Things better used in creating more bosses, map variety or even plain monsters. What are potential gains of having gender selection? Do they outweigh the effort needed to make it? I doubt it. You are free to prove me wrong. Keep in mind that you are proof yourself that its not needed. Why? Because you will still play the game.

I'd argue the proof is that MTX is what keeps the game running, and what is this if not a form of cosmetic.

I've never seen a customer base carry water for the producers of the product the way the people in this forum do. Won't someone please think of the poor animators and artists? How will they ever get to see their children grow up if they have to make 12 new character models????

No i understand what you're writing, I just suspect you're being tribalistic about a video game you've been addicted to for fifteen years now that new people are interested in playing it XD

I was so hyped for Path of Exile 2, but the gender-locked classes are a huge disappointment. It feels like such an outdated design choice for an otherwise modern game. I get that they’re going for a specific aesthetic with each class, but why not give players the freedom to choose their gender? It’s 2024 – customization should be a priority in any RPG.

What do you guys think? Does this bother anyone else, or am I overreacting? Would love to hear your thoughts!

How can it be a step backwards, when POE always had gender locked classes? Could it have been improved for POE2? Sure... Does most of the fans care? No. Most of what I see of my character is a smidge on the center of the screen in the middle of a VFX storm, hidden under several layers of MTX effects anyway. I couldn't care less now the character underneath the armor, skin and explosions look, as long as it is in one piece and not scattered around a boss room.

There's a huge difference between protecting something and pushing back on bogus claims that that something is a step back, when it is merely an aspect that has not been improved.

I can see that for the newcomer who is used to all the new fancy things other games offer, there might be certain expectations, compared to which some of what POE does might appear backwards, but then where you are talking about tribalism, we could also talk about false sense of entitlement.

Just to clarify: I wouldn't mind there being a gender select option for my character. Like.. literally.. I simply do not care. For me ARPGs are about action, not role playing. I reckon this is not true for all and that's fine, which is why I would not complain for there being such an option. I however am also certain that most people playing are much more like me, which I'm sure is the reason there's no such option.

Your account is locked, you dont have any challenge points. I dont know if youve played the game. Why does it matter if you can choose your gender? If its important for your enjoyment then there are other games to play. Sorry this game isnt for you.

Will you not play Super Mario Bros because you cant gender swap mario?
Will you stop playing street fighter because you cant gender swap Chun-li?

Hard to not see you as a troll.
