The Self Found League
" This. I don't want to cope with the farmers and the botters and the PvP economy. I just want to go kill some bad guys, get some fat loot, and go kill more bad guys... you know... as if this were an ARPG. I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

I have been playing PoE for a month now. It is my second ARPG game (Diablo 3 was my first), and I'm very impressed by the complexity and fun of this game. For this reason I became a supporter. I'm gladly to spend a few bucks on this game after having had some very bad investments over the last few years.
However, one of the reasons that killed Diablo 3 for me was of course the action house. The game quickly turned into a boring BiS item hunt. Since last week I discovered chat trading in PoE. Now this is very different than the Diablo 3 Auction House, and better in many ways. But still I think that there is this a risk that trading good items will become more important than finding good items, and hence trading will become more important than actually playing the game. I totally support a self-found league. Maybe with some small adaptations as: - higher unique drop rate or improved IIQ/IIR - being able to trade items / currency within a party that were also found within the party PS: And PR wise this is also interesting, because it will instantly create a very strong attraction to the self-found fanbase in Diablo 3 :) Last edited by GoedeWiet#2335 on Jul 15, 2013, 4:46:53 AM

" Trading is already thousands of times more efficient than either farming or crafting in this game. That ship has sailed. I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

" Casually casual.

" This is hard for me to conclude, since I'm only 1 active month into the game. But it doesn't suprise me at all. Maybe one could say that trading is part of the game, but from my friends most are just not interested in trading that much and just want to play the game. Therefore, I repeat my statement: I totally support a SelfFound league :) |

" Yeah, it isn't just a 'trading is easier' or 'self found is more difficult' thing. Although that is true, it goes well beyond that. To be honest, I find simply buying gear to be a ridiculous way to play a loot-finder, an aRPG, a progression game. But, we have to accept that these days 'best gear possible as soon as possible' is what not only the majority of gamers want, but is the mindset of developers, too. It plays into my hands somewhat, because if the game were 'no-trade' with the mindset of the developers, it would likely be far too easy to gear up. Meaning, tuning drops to equal trade in keeping the clients happy in their need for 'the best gear possible as soon as possible', it would be raining BiS items. This is where I can play the easy game that is PoE gearing via trade but play it self found and get that longevity and progression out of it. But then it all goes tits up. Crafting for one, there simply isn't enough orbs that drop per player to even register crafting as a part of the game, self found. But where it really goes to fuck is end game. Rolling maps at mid map level, to even attempt to swing the odds a little better than the 0 possibility of actually progressing maps, requires an amount of currency that wouldn't drop for you in several dozen times the time playing the map. Then, if say.. you were to play lowball content, horde currency, then attempt to progress maps and be successful, trying to progress the high end maps is going to cost literally hundreds times the currency that would drop in the time it takes to play the map. Yet, trading will get you the currency to roll the maps, to access the content. As will, of course, RMT. That's kind of bad. Trading is part of aRPGs? Well so is roll-playing, but am I required to walk not run, speak only in Karui unless [ooc], have 100 people admire my back story.. in order to get access to content? No, and there would be hell to play if that were the case. Casually casual.

" 29 levels of farming... nada... not a single upgrade. Tiny few hours my son spends in trade chat and I have full gear upgrade with change to spare from whatever currency I happened to pick up in the course of ordinary leveling and farming. Your mileage may vary. I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.

" So very true and well put. " Fully agree and one of the reasons I've gone from supporting GGG in closed beta and purchasing MT's in open beta and looking forward to buying one of the open beta supporter packs as well, to not playing anymore, thus not paying anymore to support GGG either. A way of playing this as an original style argp instead of playing either an economic trading simulator or a racing game (unable to compete in races due to health and they don't really interest me. Prefer taking my time solo and clear each map), would bring me back to playing, paying and supporting GGG. The few friends I have who did play PoE have all stopped playing for the same reasons. Bringing in the self found league that quite a few people seem to want, might or might not mean a loss of some players from default, but I suspect it would bring back a lot of ex players and increased income for GGG as I cannot see them losing players over this league being created. Edit... 58 pages and still a complete lack of any comment from GGG here. Last edited by Jaknet#1426 on Jul 15, 2013, 6:02:44 PM
