The Self Found League
Maybe we could have a Dev answer about that?

" to Chris on February 22 Hi Chris, is there a plan for more leagues? I would like to know, if some "self found league" is planed (no trading, instanced loot, no item dropping for other players to pick up). from Chris on February 22 There will be more leagues like that, yes! They are planing more leagues (or he was talking about current race leagues :-( ). So questions are now "When?" and "Will it be permanent?". I don't think it will be soon. I hope it will be permanent, otherwise I don't see a point of that league (at last for me). I've stopped having fun, when I've started trading. Why kill monsters, if it is more effective to get gear / wealth through trading. I don't think they should increase drop or something. Just disable trading and item dropping on the ground by players. If they want to compensate, I would rather see to replace current orb RNG gambling by real crafting. Last edited by Dishonor on Apr 11, 2013, 3:54:04 PM

I don't like this idea, because it's too big of a compromise. Default should work just fine as a self-found league... this isn't something that should be pushed to the side and made separate.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

I am lvl 71 right now with my Ground Slam Mara and I am starting to see what sets me apart from the crowd. Trading. The difference between me (maybe 2-3 gcp worth orbs right now) and people with pages of each orb is their commitment of time to trading. I have a few pages of decent to great gear that I could sell. I have tried the trade chat (it takes forever for anyone to buy anything you post and it takes way too much effort to keep opening it and reposting your trade). I have tried a shop thread. Once again I am one person in a sea of many. Even if someone bids on something, I have to find them in game and schedule a time to meet up and do the whole thing. All the while I am not PLAYING THE GAME. But by playing even with buying and not selling, my gear is still too weak.
I die in lvl66 and 67 maps and I out-level them decently. There really needs to be more love for people like us. I like the idea of a separate league. They can't balance the game to be in favor of us because then the rest of the players would be over powered. Either do that or make trading easier. If I need to sell crap then make it easier for me to do so I don't have to spend more time trading then actually playing. Domination IGN: The_Bloody_Fist and Aurora_Temptus

I really hope GGG have plans for this kind of league cause it becomes really frustrating. And there is nothing interesting about in the Dev manisfesto.
A new league like this is not hard to make and they have nothing to loose cause ppl can choose where they want to play. |

Let me +1 this one. A separate 'self-found' league would be wonderful.
There is one thing that has to be considered, though: people trying to 'work around' trading by 'i drop my item, then you drop yours'. You could just declare that as 'at your own risk' though people will still complain about it. Personally, I propose something drastic: drop = destroy. Basically the effect is has on town but on all maps. The warning can show up so that those who naturally drop items to 'sort' them through the inventory are warned that they can't do that (head to town and use the stash). Doing this would flat out eliminate any method to trade in any form: not only stopping scammers and RTM from affecting the league but also eliminating the change of a group gaining an advantage by working together through 'drop this/that' trades. Note: parties can still work together by just not picking up loot that they want to give to others. Note: if you're really worried about picking up that staff that your friend so much wanted then it sounds like you should've been playing in a Trade-allowed league. I'd delete all of my characters, HC and default on the SPOT to come here! Yes, it's that appealing to me, especially the drop boosts being suggested. Sidenote: Should it have Default style death or HC style (with dead players being sent to Default). Honestly, I'm leaning towards Default style. We already have a HC league for those that want 'one death only' and the whole 'remove the items from the pool' isn't a issue since there's no trading anyway. HC players can mimic the HC effect by maintaining a /deaths 0 on their characters but having it be HC means SC style players can't enjoy no trade style at all. Of course, you could have a default no trade and a HC no trade if there's enough demand for both. There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.
This game really isn't for people like that. This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr | |
Honestly...the big problem is the setup of the community.
It's hard to trade via proper Tradechat. Because....well...it's tradechat, and that has historically never worked well for games. It's hard to trade generally via the forum, mainly because of bidding and timezones and getting out-offered because you can really only be on when your seller is trying to sleep. I've been able to trade and craft with some friends, to a good bit of success, although they don't play nearly as much as me, so I'm personally pushing for in-game 'Clan' or 'Guild' support. It's already hard enough to talk about builds and the passive tree when you're negotiating between HC-only players and Default players, this would add even more absurd complications to discussion. Why am I wearing a heavy belt if I haven't got any pants?
