The Self Found League

Sorry guys. Not possible. GGG has other plans.

I'm official. Sort of.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Here's what I propose, instead of adding new leagues to compete with the current ones:
Make orbs untradeable (and thus no longer "currency"). This works out naturally, since players who want to "trade" their orbs can use them on gear, and then "trade" the now-improved gear.

So just to be clear... I just destroyed my armor and the toon that relied on it by trying to chromatic some sockets. At least in the current awful system I can go try to trade for some more chromatics to fix the issue.

"
Rework the map affix system to make them much more build-specific.

I have no comments about maps. I'd be thrilled if the game simply allowed one to GET to maps without the need for haggling or selecting one of a tiny handful of builds.

"
Drastically increase drop rates.

This sounds so plausible... like it really ought to fix something. But I don't think it will. As I look at the ratio of "rares I equip" to "rares I vendor" that ratio is currently at infinity in my post-40 game. That is to say, I have NEVER found a rare or unique to equip. So if they increase drop rates by 100x I still wouldn't expect to find a rare worth using.

My own sense is that the item system just allows way too much diversity. I'm sure that some of the items I vendored were "good" to some class somewhere. But they weren't good to ME and the odds of that happening are near-zero. I think trading offsets this by allowing the "good for someone else" factor to come into play. The downside is that it means this game is more about haggling than anything else.

"
Provide official forum and in-game tools to better facilitate trading, stealing the thunder from third-party sites such as POExplorer.com.

I find POExplorer and similar tools equally useless since, in the end, they force the whole "Path of Textiles" game play. Why is it too much to ask to want to set out on my own and make my way in the world?

"
This would lead to a much more sane barter economy that would be more fun for everyone.

There is no such thing as a sane barter economy. When you stop at the gas station to fuel your car do you wish the proprietor would tell you, "Today my wife wants a new toaster to I'm only selling gas to people who have brought a nice toaster." There is a reason real world economies don't use barter. There is a reason it sucks here.

"
There would almost definitely still be some established currency (Diablo 2 had its Stones of Jordan, then high runes), but there would be far more personal attachment to said tradeables and much more subjective evaluation involved.

Yes, and for people like you who enjoy haggling for shit that might be an improvement. But for those of us who'd prefer to play the game single-player you really haven't changed anything. There is no economy that I will like nor one I will care about "fixing" or "ruining". That's why I like self-found.
I don't trade. I don't group. My comments reflect that.
+1, and...

I have a solution to eliminate the need to increasing the currency drop rate in this Self Found League.

Let be a "luck" factor when we use an orb. This would mean a chance of the orb is not consumed in the process.

This chance could be very low (less than 1 percent, or 0) in the Normal league.

In the Self Found league could be high enough (e.g. more than 50 percent) and could be different for every kind of orbs.

I suppose this "luck" could be implemented easily.

Another alternative would be to roll everything twice, and take the better of the two results.
Greatest idea ever!
Would totally join it if it was the next 4Monthleague or a permleague (although I guess I would just play it if it was HC too ._. Im sure there are many whod like theyre characters gettin simply deleted when they die so it doesnt destroy the economy. Just my 2cents)

Deaths in Self Found League have no effect on the economy, as there is no economy to affect.
I second this. It really annoys me to no end having to deal with an inflated economy reliant on you finding top $ drops to remotely have a chance to even be viable in merciless or maps. It sucks, and I'd rather play a league where everyone else is having to deal with it too. I play games, I don't play game economies very well.

Another option would be to considerably raise the orb drop rates, or raise the odds for orbs to give the best result. Meaning getting a 6L with fusings or whatever would be easier on self found league. Chance orbs maybe have a 1 in 100 shot at making a unique instead of 1 in 1000.

Drop rates across the board up, items that drop have a better chance for better slots, etc.

I'd really love to be able to play PoE and use what I find, but as things currently are in default, its not really possible.

I support this, so i shall bump this!
Good idea. I don't play the game and trade often enough to know the currencies that well which lends to every time I trade I feel like I'm being ripped off. Which, 9/10 I probably am.
