Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012

+1 to the OP, you have pretty much spoken my own thoughts on this topic from start to finish.
PoE is most certainly the only game I have played
that recaptures the atmosphere and level of immersion
I felt in my younger years playing Diablo. Very few games will have me playing for 2 hours after I told myself that I was just going to spend 10 minutes looking for the next portal.

GGG, I take my hat off to you all. You make me that much prouder of being a kiwi.
Great post OP,
i played during the stress test weekend and the content that was available was stellar. But they do need to add more content... Adding on difficulty levels is cool and all but it is still just recycling content, and from the looks of the available acts atm, this game will need more than the 5 acts Diablo II had to stay afloat for the long run.
I agree, and I have heard that Chris/GGG plans to release content as long as is viable. Given the real dearth of story in the first two acts, and the fact that Act 3 will contain the majority of the 'story', I feel like what we're actually playing is 'an introduction to Wraeclast' rather than a self-contained product.

I have absolutely no qualms with this! They're taking their time opening the continent up. That's a smart move. I also feel that the other difficulty modes are almost place-keepers for further acts; they are a relic of Diablo 1 and easily my last favourite part of a good hack-n-slash-n-zap game.

Recently, Blizzard released a video that stated just how hard Inferno will be. It was, of course, a response to the fairly widespread belief that Diablo 3 will be easy; the beta wasn't so much easy as mindless. That's all well and good, but if your game's selling point is 'look how hard it's going to be when you have to replay it at the highest difficulty' then I think you're really off-track as regards the construction of a great game. Not even Devil May Cry 3 relied on that one.
Account sharing/boosting is a bannable offence. No ifs, ands, or buts. No exceptions. Not even for billionaires.

You cowards.
I really should start a new thread for this, but it's related to my original topic and honestly, we DO NOT NEED MORE OF THESE THREADS.

The question was asked a LOT this weekend, but I only saw one dev-cisive answer. Brian Weissman, you are the fuckin' man.

There we go. Bam.

Sorry for the image size. I suck at Internet 2.0 (The one with more than just words.)

Again though, POE is extremely easy at earlier levels too. I didn't even die once, or got close to it, until I reached the third difficulty level.
Also, blizzard stated that it gets really tough from hell and onward, and even better:

4 player groups in their first run-through (without pimped out alt gear) will start struggling at the end of normal, throughout nightmare and beyond straying from the group is extremely deadly.

The dev noted his current motto for diablo 3 multiplayer was 'Divide and be Conquered'
I have to say, this sounds really awesome.

The silence is your answer.''

...My goodness, you're relentless. I found PoE much more challenging from the get-go than Diablo 3. That's all.

Haha, I'll take that as a compliment.

Perhaps, but do keep in mind that this (the D3 beta) was a small part of the first act of the first difficulty level.

They have also stated that the difficulty will be going up as you progress through acts, not just as you get to higher difficulty levels.

Offtopic: Does anyone know how to change the difficulty for the instances? I only played the weekend stress test and couldn't figure it out.

Yes, you can do it via the map at a waypoint.
