Clearly Diablo Fan boy or just clearly doesn't comprehend English.

I agree with the OP. I am becoming less and less excited about D3 along with looking forward to PoE.

I have longed for a ARPG on the caliber of D2. I feel that wait will be over once PoE is here.
You made me post for the first time, OP.

That is the closest conveying of my emotions on the Diablo series that I have ever read, and been unable to express. I will more than likely be referring many friends to this when they ask 'Why aren't you getting Diablo 3?'.

You really did 'have to be there', from the very start of the Diablo series, to understand the feelings in the OP. Especially because the Blizzard of today is not even remotely close to the same Blizzard of the past, that had once won over my undying respect.

Very much appreciated.

I don't know much about the specifics about D3 but I've expected I'd play it when it finally came out (for years now). I did play during the open weekend and found the game quite enjoyable. I played the crap out of D1, D2, and FF7. PoE seems like the perfect combination of what everyone loves about Diablo and, in my very humble opinion, the best RPG game design feature concept ever created: the materia of FF7. PoE throws on top of that some additional features that are very exiting in the money, potions, and of course skill tree. I want to play some more.
I really feel bad for anyone with the tl;dr mentality, that's all I can really say.

When I commented that the seagulls of Wraeclast are clearly godmoding, Brian Weissman cleverly pointed out 'and they can fly!'

Serious.

I think I make it very clear why *I* felt I had to choose, and equally clear that I don't believe anyone else has to. But if they do, and if they have a reason either way, I'm extremely eager to hear the details.

The thought of D3 for the Lore, PoE for the Diablo is a good one, but I've already said that I can glean the lore of Sanctuary as it shall evolve in the hands of the current Blizzard through a synopsis and cut-scenes on youtube. I don't think that playing through the game and earnestly disliking it at every step (for reasons given) is going to have me any more invested in the epic story of Diablo than merely reading/watching it.

It's not really a choice then though is it?
I mean, if you apparently hate it so much, you wouldn't have bought it even if POE wasn't here.

That's a fair point, Tagek. But I'll be completely honest: were PoE not here, had I not discovered it, I would have caved and bought D3 eventually. Diablo 3 is a LOT OF FUN. I poured well over 30 hours into playing and replaying the beta. I can't quite prove this, of course, but I said in another post here that I found myself farming Old Tristram for Griswold's Edges, which only come from the random spawn of the forge...that's some serious replaying right there.

But with PoE suddenly there was a choice. And it wasn't a hard one to make. I've made that clear too. My choice of wording in the initial post was, of course, also designed to make it very clear how highly I hold this game. I invoked the Name of the Devil Himself. If you're going to praise something (and now I'm just repeating myself, sadly), the best way to do it, the most efficient, is to set it against the highest standard and see how it fares. Diablo 3 is that standard right now in almost everyone's eyes.

It was, to be sure, never a choice as to which one I would buy. The choice lay in which one I pick if I had to, and while 'had to' is strong, the allure of the hack-n-slash-n-zap is very hard for any of us to deny. :)

Aren't you just being kind of stubborn by not buying the game though? You can always play POE if you don't like it enough to play it for ages, but you can definetely get your moneys worth even if you just play until you no longer enjoy it.

And who knows, maybe you'll like it more than you thought you would.

Ugh, no. Just because I'd eventually relent and play it eventually doesn't mean I'm going to now. Each change made, each development revealed, pushed Diablo 3 further and further away from me. It was like falling for that hot girl *just knowing* she has more issues than the complete series of Bold and the Beautiful. In a way I'm thankful Actiblizzion were so forthcoming with all these changes, rather than simply release the game. I can guarantee that my dissatisfaction would have been almost as strong than it is now, knowing what they could have made and didn't.

Diablo 3 is a premium retail product, and here in Australia, that's a hundred bucks. I said before that while I can afford that, a hundred bucks is Other Things in my personal currency. It's ten blurays, for example. It's five to seven novels, or two to four decent books for my research. Affordability aside, a new PC game off the shelf is a serious purchase these days.

I can, of course, not speak for Charan. But since I'm in the same boat:

Yes, and I even feel kind of stubborn about not paying and playing Diablo III. But on the other hand, Diablo III goes against so many of my principles as a gamer, it's against my conscience to give Blizzard my money or even enjoy the game.
Just to be clear: This stubborn feel comes more from "I have played all things Diablo until now, I shouldn't miss out on this one" than from a genuine urge to play Diablo III in its own right.

This is just my mental state, however. Others might feel the opposite and be "just as right". It really depends on what you want your games to be like. And not just your games. It's -for me- also a decision how you'd like to be treated as a gamer.
And shelling out 60€ for something I would play mostly for nostalgia's sake and because "Diablo" is printed on the box isn't my thing. I'd rather invest it in PoE or do something else productive with it.
