Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012

I won't use the RMAH. I just want to play the damn game for what it is ^^;
RMAH is only available if you want to stroke your e-peen.
Sure, people will use it, and it's easier since it's integrated in the game. And it will be quite expensive. I think with Blizzard fee and Paypal, you gain nothing if you sell for less than 3$. Items will also be expensive...

I played Titan Quest with a friend and liked it a lot (#2 HnS IMO), but the game lacked servers and it was easy to create items.
Did it bother me? No, because I had fun with the game and I couldn't care less what other people was doing.

It may be a problem if you want to play with other people and they spoil your fun with hacked items...

But you know what you're doing when you're stepping in PvP and hope you'll do fine with your basic items.

I Completely agree with the Capcom example, it started with RE5 when they sold the multiplayer patch ^^;
And then, they became quite greedy. SF4 also had DLC costume on the disc.

There's also the example of ArenaNet and their shop in GW2, and I think it's more annoying than D3. While in D3 I can skip completely the shop because it won't change the way I play the game, I think it's a problem in GW2. Like in GW1, enemies drop tons of crap, and the inventory space is pretty limited. Guess what... they sell inventory space and character slots in the shop...
The new crafting system requires even more crap than GW1, and you have less inventory to store all this crap...

I'm also quite disappointed to see where it's heading, even if the game is really good.

The failure in your logic is that you don't actually have an advantage over other players by having better gear, in D3 that is. There's no comparison between players. No guilds that have gear requirements, no raids, etc.
Only the arena system, that matches you with similar people, thus gear is not an issue there.

My logic is centered about PoE, not D3. Will you have advantage in PoE if you buy items with real money in open PvP and lader? Yes, and thats what i was saying.
If you can buy items in d3 will you be more powerful then others? Yes. Is there any competition? No, but that doesn't change the fact that people buy power with money becose of RMHA, and that would also hapen in PoE if there was RMHA.
Also about PvP in d3 becose I didnt folow it, while they take in consideration your items, or only lvl?

Do you like RMHA, and will you use it for buying items with real money?

They take your performance into consideration,
and probably your gear too through the tier system.

I don't think I will be using the real money auction house, but maybe I will. It all depends on how it turns out to be in the final game really. I'll be happy playing it regardless

Meh, Gw2 will have a near perfect money system imo.
They don't sell power, at all. The only thing you can buy (which you could consider as power), is a very costly, pretty pointless, temporary buff while in your own territory in world vs world pvp (which isn't a very serious game-mode to begin with.)
There's just not a lot of things you can offer with a no subscribtion model, inventory space is a logical choice.

what's a serious game mode? We're talking about video games here ^^;

If you do well in WvW, you gain global buff (like more XP, more gold, etc... in PvE). With gems, you can buy Karma boost, which allows you to buy siege weapon to do better in WvW. You can also obviously buy weapons with gems (because you can trade gems with gold) but items in GW2 are meaningless, like in GW1.

My only grip currently is the limited inventory. Sure, it seems an obvious choice, but I also think they don't give enough space for a 60$ game. It costs nearly nothing to store data in database nowaway, that's why I think it's annoying and they're being greedy.

Dungeon Defenders, a 15$ game from an indie company, gives more space than GW2, do you think it's normal?

Blizzard removed runes, id scrolls and reduce the size of weapons, and crafting doesn't generate tons of crap. Overall you get more space in your inventory. ArenaNet reduced the size of the inventory, added more crafting material and useless intermediate components... Yeah... they reeeaaaally want you to buy some space.

Why don't I complain about inventory space in PoE?
Because the inventory is bigger than GW2, by a lot, and it's a free game. Maybe they will change this in the future, but right now, they're not screwing the beta testers.

Seriously, I don't get the rampant self-righteousness of this group of people who try to defeat any and all argument with "see you at release".

How full of yourself can you get, to think that you know exactly how everyone else thinks/feels? Not everyone has a raging need to jump on the over-hyped bandwagon.

Count me as another Diablo vet who wasted countless hours playing D1, and then D2, and isn't the slightest impressed by what D3 is shaping up to be.

Will I play it? My gf got me a pre-order as a random gift, so yeah, I'll give it a try. But unless she goes one step further and picks up my copy at the store when it's released, I'll be a couple weeks late in getting it myself.

How are they being greedy? The purchases are supposed to pay for new content after release.. That's how MMo's work. Selling inventory slots is a good way to get money, so that's how they'll do it. If you want more inventory slots, buy them. I'm sure they won't cost very much anyway.

In Guild Wars' defence, you could get extra storage space via quests and in-game shopping. The only thing I cash-shopped for Gw1 was more character slots, and I saw nothing wrong with that. I did that before they started allowing respecs and changing secondary classes, so really, that purchase was purely for my own addiction to alts.

Related to the RMAH of D3, I have a feeling (and that's all it is, so don't take it as anything more) that the ability to use real money to buy in-game power will have a very strong impact on whether or not Diablo 3 achieves any sort of 'e-sport' status. Not that I ever understood how any game that gives different players different resources to begin with could be an 'e-sport,' but I have heard talk that people think Diablo 3 has the potential to become stuff.

I mean, after they put in PvP. Whenever that will be.
https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

Huh. My mace dude is now an actual cultist of Chayula. That's kinda wild.

Well... I guess PoE is bound to fail then...
The game is free (and not 60$) and they don't try to rob their players with inventory space...

I prefer a lot more LoL business model.

I don't think D3 will be a serious eSport game, and Blizzard said they won't try to make it one. One of the problem is obviously the gears.

You will have to pay to win, if you want to win in PvP, that's why they just advertise it as a fun game mode and not an eSport thing.

Except you missed an important part of my post.
Guild wars 2 will feature huge content updates, POE, obviously, will not.
