I think it’s silly that people keep on saying they are only going to play this game or that game. When it comes to Diablo 3 and Path of Exile why wouldn’t you play both? If you’re interested in one of them you clearly like this genre of games, so why not have double the fun and get them both.
And regarding the price of Diablo 3 I’m 100% sure Grinding Gear Games isn’t just making this game for the sake of charity. They also have to make money the same as any business. The approach is just different. I haven’t read up much about how Path of Exile works but I found that In most cases “free to play” games cost the player much more money in the long run than the normal fixed $ the game would have been, that’s why so many companies are using the strategy. In regards to Diablo 3 you could always just grind a bit and sell some items at the auction house till you make the $60 back.
Just my 2c
I’m going to buy and enjoy both of them.
IF you buy anything ;)

PoE is a MMO, D3 is not. PoE is F2P, you are not forced to buy anything.
PoE is a MMO? heh, that's new :)
it brings back some memories though, when everyone was debating about GW1 beeing a MMO or not ^^;
Well, GW1 had more a MMO feeling than PoE, but it wasn't a MMO.
In a MMO, you have some open world, where you can meet other players when you're fighting an enemy. Everything is instanced in GW1, like PoE, and limited to a number of users (even if a game in GW1 could hold 32 players, I think it's limited to 8 in PoE)
GW2 IS a MMO, you go outside, you see 20 guys fighting a giant golem, you take part in that fight. After killing him, you can part way or join some players if you want...
So... no... 8 players in an instanced area doesn't make a game a MMO.
PoE forums ignore list script:

0.4: added "ignore" button. ignore list is now saved locally. Last edited by kodr#0209 on Mar 30, 2012, 4:00:10 PM

Its not open in beta, but it will be open in some leagues. You will be able to go to instances and meet people there (and kill them). So you will have a mmo experience, or a normal, that you call like gw 1.

What do you mean by that?
You pay for somthing, that you dont own. You can not play the game in offline mode. You depend from blizzard. You can not play when you want where you want. If somthing happens to serves, you can not play, even if you paid for it. That is what he means I think. If somthing happens to blizz (its almost impossible) you can kiss your money goodbye.
That's a rather poor reason for not buying it.
You either have other reasons for not buying it other than just that, or you are just being pretty stupid.
You CAN play when you want where you want. There will be some exceptions, but those will be few and far between.

Faerie_Storm:
This is exactly what I mean by not really owning it. SIngle player online only? nope don't own that. Offline singled player you own, but anything online, no you don't really own it.
If it was a MMORPG, yeah ok I can deal with a one time cost (can't expect everything free) but no way am I paying a subscription to a game.
If Blizzards server for Diablo III go down you now have a $60 paperweight (until they go back up) essentially.
At least for Diablo II it's battle.net ever went down for good, you can still play single player and LAN games ;)

Besides, singleplayer games are seperate from multiplayer characters, so why would you ever start a singleplayer game anyway? As soon as the servers were up you'd go back to your real characters. It's seems odd that you are so dependant on gaming that a few hours of down-time makes you feel like you wasted 60$

True, but in diablo 3 the content is even more optional than it is in POE, because all the buyable content is also obtainable through gameplay, while POE's optional content will NOT be obtainable through gameplay.

clearly you dont even know what is an MMO game cause surely PoE isnt.
When all the chars in PoE become identical in the way they look im sure most of the players will buy cosmetic things and that is where GGG is aiming too.

I'll likely be playing both. I like to see where both games take the genre. D3 does have some good innovations, as does POE from the looks.
