Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012
I'm definitely going to check both games out...
excited to try this one as the other beta game i can't speak about due to non disclosure, hard to guess i'm sure.. just isn't grabbing my attention |

" This is exactly what I mean by not really owning it. SIngle player online only? nope don't own that. Offline singled player you own, but anything online, no you don't really own it. If it was a MMORPG, yeah ok I can deal with a one time cost (can't expect everything free) but no way am I paying a subscription to a game. If Blizzards server for Diablo III go down you now have a $60 paperweight (until they go back up) essentially. At least for Diablo II it's battle.net ever went down for good, you can still play single player and LAN games ;) Julius's path of exile wine bundle for mac here: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/48708/page/1

" Diablo 1 servers are still up. Diablo 2 servers are still up. I think there is a good probability that Diablo 3 servers will stay up for 10+ years (unless Blizzards HQ gets hit by a meteor or something crazy like that). |

No one knows what future will bring, I learned that the hard way.
No matter what, it is not a good thing to depend from someone. |

" Yeah, especially when you pay $60 to depend on someone.... Julius's path of exile wine bundle for mac here: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/48708/page/1

" so... by this logic a player of PoE is in the same situation, cause PoE's servers can go off too. so none should invest money to microtransactions for PoE, even more since GGG's servers surely are most likely to go off. |
|
" PoE is a MMO, D3 is not. PoE is F2P, you are not forced to buy anything. |
|
I choose Diablo 2 over PoE. And Diablo 3 we will see how it be after 15.05.2012
Hell Yeah!

|
" Yes, i chose also d2 complete over PoE beta. But d2 beta over PoE beta? Dont think so. Last edited by Ragnar119#4963 on Mar 30, 2012, 3:09:58 PM

I think it’s silly that people keep on saying they are only going to play this game or that game. When it comes to Diablo 3 and Path of Exile why wouldn’t you play both? If you’re interested in one of them you clearly like this genre of games, so why not have double the fun and get them both.
And regarding the price of Diablo 3 I’m 100% sure Grinding Gear Games isn’t just making this game for the sake of charity. They also have to make money the same as any business. The approach is just different. I haven’t read up much about how Path of Exile works but I found that In most cases “free to play” games cost the player much more money in the long run than the normal fixed $ the game would have been, that’s why so many companies are using the strategy. In regards to Diablo 3 you could always just grind a bit and sell some items at the auction house till you make the $60 back. Just my 2c I’m going to buy and enjoy both of them. |
