Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012

I don't know why, but imagining myself playing D3 or POE with my WoW-style controls/keybinds makes me think of movement similar to the old-school Resident Evil games.

And I abhor that.

Hahaha. Feature request: add those horrible stair-climbing loadscreens to POE :)

I think it sounds great, but not quite as epic as the previous music.

To be fair though, It's a lot easier to like a piece of music when you've played the epic game that goes along with it, like I have diablo 2.

WASD is bad because ranged classes were balanced around click to move style play, not WASD.

being able to move left while constantly attacking to the right, is a lot easier then clicking right, clicking left to move, clicking right to attack, etc.

It is substantially EASIER with wasd to kite, which is why most who ask for wasd secretly want it. The movement control type is FINE, but it needs to be balanced around it, and most ARPG's are not

This genre of isometric view games as always been mouse heavy. CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK! Get a brace if its that hard on your wrist, or learn to hold a mouse properly.

The complainers are just horrible though. Back in D2 release days, we didn't have massive forums, and the talking spaces we did have then, simply had a fraction the amount of people. Development process was typically a "behind closed doors event," where now the community feels and acts more involved, as if they worked for the company. While it has been the evolution of how games are developed, it certainly comes with some drawbacks just like everything else.

One minute into it and I'm already in love.
I know right! :)

Just a little news -- also, I like to bump this now and then because I miss it. Good times, good times.

A fellow exile asked me not long ago if he or she could use the original post of this thread on their websites. With the usual caveats, I agreed. But I had no idea that it would be translated into another language!

Anyway, here's the link to my article, as alien to me as to anyone else.

I amused myself by letting Google translate it. Looks like a pretty good effort.

This is actually the second time something I've written for a game has been translated into another language -- way back when, my original Meleemancy guide for Diabloiii.net was translated into German, French and Swedish I believe.

As someone who speaks English natively, Japanese haltingly and Chinese reluctantly, seeing my work in other European languages is never, ever not a total trip.

:)
https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

Huh. My mace dude is now an actual cultist of Chayula. That's kinda wild.
