Time Capsule from PoE Closed Beta -- a classic PoE vs D3 thread circa 2012

Wow, holy bad information.
D2 runes/runewords, were ITEMS/gear based for socketed items. D3 runes are just SKILL MODIFICATIONS; they give your skills extra effects, or change attributes like switching your hydra spell from fire to ice damage. There is absolutely nothing similar, or in common with D2 and D3 runes at all short of the name!!!!! They don't perform the same role in the game, and are in no ways similar! They actually performed the same role as gems in D2, with the addition of being able to socket them in specific orders to create unique items. Just wanted to pop in and say this d3/poe bashing/loving is retarded either way. Play one, play both, play neither; but really what is the point of starting flaming between us consumer/players over it?? POE is in beta, started by an indie company who has probably 1/20th the manpower of the D3 team, with 1/1000th the budget. For their resources, they're doing great. It isn't perfect, but nothing is. Hell, when the prestiged Diablo 2 was in beta, game previews were bashing it around like a ragdoll- the beta was so short, if you got 20-30 minutes a run that meant you REALLY took your time to finish; people were able to do 5-10 minute beta runs in D2 beta (which ended at Blood Raven). However, at the end of the day, I think its pretty safe to say that D2 ended up being a hit despite the commentary, and ended up being a game most of us played for YEARS. It still to this day, gets stocked and restocked on shelves in video game stores and Walmart. D3 has a big budget and a big reputation to live up to. It has millions of fans from other games, which is millions of perspectives and expectations to live up to. Some are living off nostalgia of games they played when they were young. Others look excitedly to the evolution of the genre and the series. The fact is, when D1/D2 were out, we didn't have overreaching communities being able to provide commentary on the game development process like we have nowadays. Most people were in the dark of how the game played short of possibly a preview or two from priveledged sites like gamespot running a column, or NDA info leakers until it came out. Betas were a limited and selected group, who used to get CDs in the mail. Now, we have new and old players alike able to put some information in to a form and receive beta access that they treat like a game demo. Anyway, I think I'm done with the rant. I'd recommend people try both POE, and Diablo 3, when they are released as beta is not an accurate representation of anything, short of a 'taste' of what the finished product MIGHT be. So stop speculating that the entire POE plot will be boring, or that Blizzard 'ruined' diablo 3, because both games have plenty of features that deserve merit. Nobody short of blizzard knows how difficult or long their upcoming title will be. EVERYTHING is speculation, driven by the fact the game has yet to hit shelves. NOBODY has anything factual about its endgame or systems short of the blacksmith and 30 minutes of game content. And as for the whole "well they charging 60$ AND RMAH fees", they do it because they can. Free market is driven by what people will pay, and considering they got over a million people to commit to another YEAR of the aging World of Warcraft for a free copy of D3, only attests to the fact that millions more will shell out the money for a paid copy as well. |

" I'm pretty sure this is false. The best items in the game will drop from Acts 3 & 4 of Inferno. That doesn't mean you can't happen to find a Rare item with good rolls that happens to be an upgrade though in Hell difficulty. “God put me on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I will never die.”

@alcovitch
Nope, they said the same items will drop in hell as in inferno. Perhaps there will be some items that only drop in inferno, but they haven't said anything about that. " No, they actually said all the same items will drop in all acts of inferno, with later acts being only "mathmatically better" (whatever the hell that is supposed to mean, though speculated they'll just roll with higher range of attributes more often), and that hell/act4 will have a chance to get some inferno quality items as well. I can dig up the blue post on d3 forums if you're really interested. |

" The highest item tier will drop only in inferno. And that info is not that new, so I don't know who is not informed.. |

" EDIT: Actually, I would like you to dig that post up. I see some forum posts right here that say you can get the same items in hell as in inferno. Point still stands though, inferno is for the people that want to have very high difficulty and high rewards. Blizzard also wanted to keep hell from D2 intact, and so they added on inferno. " I'll wait and play inferno to say that. If I get best items and inferno becomes easy as it was with hell in d2, than they failed. Hope it will not hapen. |
