Don't feel like playing anymore.
Those discussions about self found vs trade are fun but it has nothing to do with the thread. We're talking about A4N piety here, this is a boss that you can kill self found, even without life on your gear, even with a gimped tree. For sure, you'll die the first time because the beam is a surprise, but then you'll take with you the only thing that you need to beat this boss, which is a quicksilver flask and/or movement speed boots to make the "dodge the beam" game really easy.
I won't say the same thing for Cruel version of Piety, it's a lot harder to beat her with bad tree / bad stuff. But then again, it's a bit like that for each zone : everything in normal can and is done with whatever gear/skill, cruel requires more preparation. I still don't understand how someone who levelled to 88 in this game can have so much difficulties with Piety normal. I suspect your fatigue about the game is not so much related to Piety but to other things as well. Especially considering I still find Dominus way harder than Piety A4 in normal, self found. if you are geared enough (level + items) to beat normal act 4 piety you can basicly faceroll cruel till act 4 the difficulty setting is so off the scale for act4 normal especially for summoners
i killed piety myself i just overleveld the area really hard +5 and bought the malachai kill the 3 organ bosses are a joke once you have beaten piety malachai is an fps check like dom was or better still is have to agree with shags the difficulty is way off for selffound hc https://poe-ssf.herokuapp.com/. It's actually the difficulty of A1/2/3 cruel which is way off. Well at least A1/2 Cruel. This portion of the game is a huge faceroll since 2.0, it was never hugely difficult sure, but when I rerolled pre 2.0, I used to stop at the usual spots ledge/sins in cruel and merc to farm a bit. It's not needed anymore. If you buy the piety/malachai cruel kill, everything else is so easy you can juste cruise through the game and do the zones 4 or 5 lvls under all the way to A4 merc.
In my opinion, normal is in a pretty good spot post nerfs, A4N is a good warning that the tutorial is over kinda. A1/2C need to be harder, not 10x harder but just harder enough so that you're feeling in danger if underlevelled. A3C is "ok". A4C could be nerfed a bit. Then A1/2M need to be way more dangerous than they are now. edit: I only play in hardcore leagues, so that's my opinion about progression in hardcore. Last edited by Dawmz on Aug 10, 2015, 7:35:58 PM

Thing is, playing in a HC league AND buying boss kills to advance is oxymoronic. Real HC players like Shags don't believe in that kind of thing.

Jeebus! People are still whining about the Act 4 bosses?
I just completely solo'd through Warbands Cruel with my ranger and believe GGG have been quite responsive and judicious in tuning the end bosses to manageable levels. Piety's laser now has a second long telegraph animation (a suggestion I was very vocal about last month) and I didn't get killed even once. The Malachai fight, which I admit is visually overwhelming at times, has a discernible pattern and many attacks can be anticipated and avoided if you're paying attention. It feels like one of those bullet hell shoot-em-up games and beating him is very satisfying even if he takes you down a handful of times first. I would never qualify as a hardcore player with a deep grasp of meta and stat synergy but from my experience, 2.0 has vastly improved since release. There are still many, many things to be legitimately frustrated about (lag-inducing strongbox traps is currently my biggest gripe) but these self-righteous declarations of disappointment are in very poor taste. So don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
Enjoy your break, Shaggles. Whereabouts in the Caribbean are you headed? I'd love to be doing some Marlin fishing in St. Thomas :( It has been raining here in Wellington for the last 4 days straight.

The best way to learn the new content is to try it until you beat it.
The best way to do that without getting frustrated is to play through the game on SC once before going to Hardcore. For a little context here, with my Duelist on Warbands (lvl 84 atm), I made it through all the content in the game EXCEPT Merc Malachai without taking a single death. I had my first (and second and third) deaths while learning merc malachai mechanics when I cleared him at level 74. I traded for all of two items (4c total): A Rigvald's charge in the middle of cruel and a WoE right at the end of cruel (which I still use). Point being that hardcore is not the best way to learn the new mechanics of the boss fights. Shags, if you read this when you get back, consider making a pass through the game in SC to learn stuff without raging your head off. I've played HC stuff myself and dying right before hitting a goal (esp repeatedly) can get really frustrating. For example, RIPing multiple chars in the 1MHC league that gave the Red Armor at level 79, right before hitting 80 to get the MTX. I wish you luck in whatever you end up doing though! -Savage Theorycrafter/Build Creator for PORTAL guild

" We're on a cruise ship... two weeks. Ports in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Cozumel, key West, Twice in the Bahamas. I'm really not "raging". I'm trying to give feedback to GGG. Thought that was what this forum was for. There must be a "I want to be abused" forum that I overlooked. Last edited by Shagsbeard on Aug 10, 2015, 10:14:31 PM

" I don't frequent these forums enough to be familiar with who has how much status. I prefer to invest more time playing because I like this game and feel that the devs are entitled a degree of respect by virtue of their accomplishment which they are still improving. They are certainly due more respect than some entitled, whiny stranger on a message board.
" I don't think you're raging, as always you've written clear and constructive feedback as the basis for your feelings - the problem is that a lot of people can't step outside of their own sphere of experience and understand that other people enjoy a play style that differs from theirs. We call these people [pre-emptive rbs]. I really do hope you enjoy your trip :) Red Stripe beer, stone crab, lobster, fruity little drinks with fucking umbrellas and shit sticking out of them. I'm jealous dude. == Officially Retired 27/02/2019 == Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years.
