Don't feel like playing anymore.
" It doesn't matter how A4 has been balanced... THIS... " ...is the sign of a broken game balance! Maybe A4 should be more difficult, maybe it should be easier, maybe there should be some changes done in Normal, but not in Cruel, maybe some of the other acts should be revised, or whatever... However, the progression should be with increased difficulty through the acts and difficulties, not completely spiky at the end of A4 as it is! Maybe A1 should be slightly easier than the preceding difficulty A4, but by A2 at the latest it should be more difficult than the preceding A4... Similarly, the end of A4 should not be a gigantic leap in difficulty compared to the start of A4. Last edited by Cyzax on Aug 10, 2015, 3:52:39 PM

I looked at your level 45 marauder in Tempest. He has less than +100 TOTAL life on gear. I can understand not getting drops, but there are masters in the game now and none of your gear has any master crafted slots. You could add the low life roll granted by a level 3 master to every piece of your gear without life on it.
Not using masters genuinely blows my mind. With the exception of a very few number of mods, everything they offer is dirt cheap. It makes playing solo self found fun again. Give them a shot. Anarchy/Onslaught T shirt

" I did try Pillars... got a couple hours into it. Not really my thing. It's more story driven and the characters are on rails. Meh. I like the feeling of building my own characters and pillars gives me the feeling I'm filling in the steps in a game already played by someone else. Some people love that. Not for me. One thing I'd like to say about difficulty. The game has always been really hard up until it's really easy. Trading for gear makes that jump almost immediate. Traders telling solo/SF players that they're doing it wrong are not appreciated here. I refrain from calling traders cheaters, and I'd prefer it if traders would offer me the respect of not calling us "idiots" or whatnot for enjoying our style of play. |

" My mara was my first character in the league. I didn't have level 3 masters when I retired him. |

" <About to write 4 long paragraphs before I saw this. I swear it wasn't going to be arguments for yu to stay because I would never do that.> Instead, I'll just relay my experience. I am a HC only, temp league only player. I never even read the front page of www.pathofexile.com from the time I stopped playing Bloodlines to the beginning of this league. I went into Piety fight without knowing a thing and thinking that I could just improvise and play well and just kill her. Nope. The beam hit me and I instantly died. I didn't expect a beam so I wasn't even prepared to avoid it, and on top of that my defenses and resists were shit because I am used to manually avoiding everything that could kill me (I've killed cruel Dom and merc vaal with negative resists, in 1.3 I've gone mapping with just over 3k hps, etc.) Oh man. I raged at my friend for like an hour straight about how GGG finally failed in their design and wtf did their design philosophy suddenly changed and so on. And btw, I am that guy that certain people on these general forums call an elitist pig. Then I relaxed and thought about it. The encounter. I had plenty of time to think about it because I of course had to reroll and I farmed a lot more than I'd normally do while levelling. I actually did get defenses and maxed my lightning (it was at 15 when I ripped). I always think about my deaths and possible death scenarios. The possibility I looked at was that I was shocked from her lightning globe and therefore when I got hit by the beam I died too fast to react properly. I went into it on my 2nd char and killed her easily. Now I am going to force feed you what she does and the mechanics of the fight so that you can also get past it. Because after her is Malachai, who I've never died to because I believe that is an easier and less rippy fight then even Merc Brutus. You'll kill him in 1 shot I believe. 1. Lightning balls: She only drops them where you were standing. So if you want, you can go in the upper left corner (for example) and just walk around so she drops them there. You can do this in the non-beam phase or you can rely on topaz flasks if you want to tank them. 2. She will start the beam facing to the right so never be there in the non beam phase. 3. You can use dashes (e.g. whirling blades) or leaps (e.g. leap slam or lightning warp) to leap over her beam. This I feel is the best way because it then gives you ~300 deg left to have free dps on her and then you leap/dash again and repeat. This requires good timing for this option. 4. You can run around. The closer to her you are the easier. This gives you less dps time but is safer. Good luck. "Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference." — Mark Twain

" Guess I'm just fortunate in how often I encounter them, then. For your witch, you should swap the placements of spectres and zombies. Zombies benefit greatly from the +1 level in the helmet. +1 level to spectres on the other hand is hardly anything. For your ranger you need a good single target. I would try Puncture + Trap + Point Blank + Physical projectile damage or added fire or any other support of your choosing. While malachai was a bit painful as a summoner (I had to portal and visit dried like 4 times to resummon), piety was pretty much a joke (following all the nerfs, she as insanely overpowered at launch), as were the 3 organ bosses. Incinerate is a good spell to use with them early. Anarchy/Onslaught T shirt

" Not me, I never called you a pig. | |
You are bad at this game, Shags.
Not because you are a bad player, but because you don't use the many facerollifying tools available. Don't ever git gud, Shags. Casually casual.

I don't often see eye to eye with you, Shags, but I certainly get your lack of motivation. Haven't hit it yet myself this time around, but that's likely because I play standard. I'll just keep coming back to the boss that killed me until I whittle him away to nothing.
While I believe that GGG has developed a better understanding of the difference between challenging and cheap in their balancing, they've still a little ways to go in that regard. I don't recall who said it in this thread, but it's absolutely true that when 60-75% of one difficulty is easier than the final act of the previous difficulty, your balance progression is fucked. That's another lesson GGG could stand to learn. Last edited by Thaelyn on Aug 10, 2015, 5:24:16 PM

" See, I would use this technique if I felt that I would enjoy the game more. I don't. I play by my ruleset because when I've deviated from it in the past, I end up hating the game. Each plays their own way. People say "you suck" simply out of ignorance (literally, they don't have a basis to understand). Until they've tried to play this game without trading and help from other players, they should keep their judgements to themselves. They've played in their ruleset for so long that they can't imagine how others might play it differently. |
