Don't feel like playing anymore.

This is also, in my opinion, a characteristic of this game's developers.
Reboticon is on point though shags.

Try to run some instances and see if you can find Haku a couple of times. If it means not dying with a character i would classify that as "well worth the trouble".

Good luck on your ventures, both in and out game.

PoE is designed to be played 'the easy way'. Boosts, flip/trading, build guides/shopping lists, paid boss kills, panic macros etc... And the difference between that way and the hard way might be a touch wider than it could be.

So, the end result is a situation where those who use all of the easy-pass methods available feel the campaign portion of the game is a breeze, while those of us doing it the bare bones way get all we an handle and more!

GGG doesn't want players to survive the game playing the hard way. So if you manage, expect GGG to stick it to you HARDER the next time. Isn't that what it's all about, though?

Overcome the odds, Shags. It makes Chris mad when we do! :D

Next on the docket: Cruel Act 4.

Have a great vacation, sir. Sounds like a heck of a lot more fun than playing video games :)

You like chraen or whatever his name is need to l2p. EVERYONE plays self found in normal anyway. Have to no gear is out on market yet at start of new ladder. Try running in a cricle with the beam. You should never get hit.
Git R Dun!
2 words: flame totem. A 3-link flame totem with a white 20% ele scepter and no ele/fire nodes destroys content up until act3 cruel. Further if you spec a few points into it and 4-link it.

Drop totem, run away and dodge stuff. When the totem dies, drop it again. If a nest spawns, drop a totem beside it and run away. It seriously is that easy.

GGG themselves have stated that the skill is designed to carry you until merc/early maps. Use the tools at your disposal. Builds are nice and all, but if you aren't at least supplementing your dps with a 3-link flame totem while leveling, you're doing it wrong.

Doing it the hard way means NOT using meta-cheese.

Not using a flame totem is NOT doing it wrong. Sorry.
i've done this act 4 before any nerf with 350 Dps, it can't be that hard at Piety, Silver & Granite flask can work very well ...

I don't often see eye to eye with you, Shags, but I certainly get your lack of motivation. Haven't hit it yet myself this time around, but that's likely because I play standard. I'll just keep coming back to the boss that killed me until I whittle him away to nothing.

While I believe that GGG has developed a better understanding of the difference between challenging and cheap in their balancing, they've still a little ways to go in that regard. I don't recall who said it in this thread, but it's absolutely true that when 60-75% of one difficulty is easier than the final act of the previous difficulty, your balance progression is fucked. That's another lesson GGG could stand to learn.

See, I would use this technique if I felt that I would enjoy the game more. I don't. I play by my ruleset because when I've deviated from it in the past, I end up hating the game. Each plays their own way.

People say "you suck" simply out of ignorance (literally, they don't have a basis to understand). Until they've tried to play this game without trading and help from other players, they should keep their judgements to themselves. They've played in their ruleset for so long that they can't imagine how others might play it differently.

You have a lot of self-imposed rules, and I can respect them but I think that you could use a few strategies that could get you (semi-comfortably) past normal. Over-levelling is crucial for your conditions, at least 5-6 lvls over. Although 'against' your rules I suggest just one character in SC just so you can practice the mechanics of all the new bosses etc. Saves so much time (and you could apply this for cruel etc if necessary). Another suggestion is to go elemental so you're less gear dependent, at least for the character that tries to push through. That will allow you to focus on defenses and manouvering. You don't need to go anything meta predictable if you don't want to, it'll just help you not start to fall behind in terms of dps if you don't have the drops. Also, don't forget that Masters as they level can help 'self-found' gear become less terrible.

(ps - i never trade for a character before it's in Merciless, maximum for a weapon around lvl 45ish ie mid cruel if necessary).
