Don't feel like playing anymore.

Buy or find a normal weapon like timber axe, shadow axe or jade chopper, use 4 wetstones on it, alch a rustic sash and then use the recipe weapon + rare rustic + wetstone to have a +50%-69% increased damage. Use an augmentation and hope for attack speed. there you have a two handed weapon for A4N and A1C.

Actually, spamming alts may be even better than the rustic sash recipe

///OPTIONAL\\\ Use a regal the weapon and lastly craft flat physical damage on the weapon with Vagan for an even better self crafted weapon

Do you really think a self-found player would not know about such thing?

You should also read a post fully before you reply to it. I was talking about Merciless difficulty that forced me to trading.

I obviously did crafted my weapon by using rustic sash recipe. It was unfortunately nerfed to oblivion in Awakening so it starts to trail behind in Merciless Act4 where everything has tons of life. I also did that within first week of playing, which means I did not have tons of alteration orbs to spam on weapons let alone a regal orb to waste in a hope to get good affix.

My weapon had 175 pDPS O_O, I first bought 350 pDPS weapon for 2 Chaos and later upgraded to 420 pDPS for 4 Chaos. I wrecked Merciless Act4 bosses before nerf with that.

All in all, unless you are lucky or exclusively play gear-independent builds, you will need to buy few key items that will enable you to progress further.

PS. OP, check D3, their late self-found model seems to be decent. You should now have lot of free time when you ditched PoE :)
Well you can actually also be just lucky, I got a +3 bow just a few hours after I started my Poison Arrow Trapper. And before I got a nice 148% increased damage harbinger with 9% critchance. Just had to put a bit of flat phys on it and it was a nice weapon.

So the issue I agree on is that you basically have to make a rather gear-independend char first. Although I would view a 2h-weapon based one as this since there are rather easy upgrades for most of the time. Buying a weapon simply is a shortcut there, but in general running low maps or just farming Dominus yields a decent weapon rather quickly, although just buying one for 2c is a lot faster.

I thought similarly about 2H Marauder, therefore, I picked it as my first character in live 2.0. I tested the character in Awakening beta where I could easily get to entry maps within a week of start. The difference was I found decent 2H weapon in Merciless that perfect. Second reason was missing later part of Act4 with all of its bosses.

Underlying issue here is that RNG can significantly impact your game all the more if you are self-found. It is clear GGG has no intention to support solo and/or self-found players to any greater extent, therefore, players should be aware of consequences these self-imposed restrictions bring.
Seems to me like the issue is more about making A1, A2 harder than it is about making A4 easier. That would be more fun to me anyway :)
