Sheer Frustration: 27 5L's later, no 6L...... Yes, Twenty-fucking-Seven 5L's.

Another illustration of the difference between Good RNG and Bad RNG...

Good RNG
Player: "I want an apple!" *kills a monster*
Game: "You get a radish."
Player: "I want an apple!" *kills another monster*
Game: "You get a carrot."
Player: "I want an apple!" *kills opens a chest*
Game: "You get an orange."
Player: "I want an apple!" *kills yet another monster*
Game: "You get another radish."
Player: "Goddamnit! I want an apple!"
Game: "Maybe you should start wanting radishes."
Player: "No, fuck that. I want an apple!"
Game: "Maybe you could find someone who does want radishes, and trade an apple off of them."

Bad RNG (aka Fusing system)
Player: "I want an apple!" *kills a monster*
Game: "You get nothing."
Player: "I want an apple!" *kills another monster*
Game: "You get nothing."
Player: "I want an apple!" *kills opens a chest*
Game: "You get nothing."
Player: "I want an apple!" *kills yet another monster*
Game: "You get nothing."
Player: "Goddamnit! I want an apple!"
Game: "Keep on killing monsters, and I'll give you one. Someday. When I'm good and ready."
Player: "No, fuck that. I want an apple!"
Game: "Fuck me? No, sir. Fuck you."
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

The Jeweler's/Fusing mechanics are more like:

Player: "I want an apple!" *kills a monster*
Game: "You lose 3 apples."
Player: "I want my apples back!" *kills another monster*
Game: "You get 1 apple."
Player: "I still want my apples back!" *opens a chest*
Game: "You lose 1 apple."
Player: "F*ck, I want my apples back!" *kills yet another monster*
Game: "You get 2 apples."
Player: "Goddamnit! I want more apples!" *kills yet another monster*
Game: "Your weapon breaks."
Player: "No, fuck that. I want an apple!"
Game: "Fuck me? No, sir. Fuck you."
TY to those who called me out on my BS on these forums. There is no benefit to being so selfish as to fail to acknowledge others' differing beliefs of what "should be" or believe your own opinions so supreme as to be factual and thus dismiss others' opinions as being somehow a lie or delusional.
@Perfect_Black: Not really, because one only applies orbs to items in the stash, and never on items one is actually wearing (unless one is stupid). This means any RNG result other than better is essentially a zero, not a negative.

But why are you determined to show how something is worse than bad? Nothing is bad enough; "Bad RNG" is bad enough.

Amount of jewelers in your stash going from 500 to 0 and ending up with 2 socket item says it's a negative, after all.

Btw, I wish we could craft on items we use without risking breaking them.

No, because a 3L or 4L is equally worthless when you're wearing a 5L.

You could add just "RNG" with the scenario they just keep going until they get the apple themselves while retaining all the radish and carrots....

While fuses may be "bad RNG" they aren't forcing you to use them. They are the high risk/high reward option. The other 2 methods may be used as well.

Your good RNG, RNG and bad RNG make up the linking system. Putting fuses in the spotlight isn't fair to the whole system.

Which are what exactly? Keep in mind that, whatever they are, they should justify the existence of the Orb of Fusing. I explained in an earlier post that the issue isn't how easy/hard it is to get a 5L or 6L. What we're really talking about here is how Fusings are just utter shit to play with.

This is a perfect example of why the Jeweler's/Fusing system is broken/incomplete.

Because the Jeweler's/Fusing system is worse than bad. I would be content with "you get nothing." frequently when using Jeweler's/Fusings, but instead one must lose sockets/links over and over in order to maybe gain sockets/links. You offer a single Jeweler's and 20x Blacksmith's Whetstones to gamble on a weapon upgrade on a 5S 5L; you get a 2S no link. You just lost way more value than you offered to gamble. The system is worse than bad.

Me too. I have been wishing this for at least 8 months now.

The Jeweler's/Fusing system is awful and has been for way too long. At best, the mechanics are incomplete.

Then don't? The discussion of the get rich quick orbs on their own isn't fair when they alone don't make up the circle of links, item mods, maps etc.

I read that as "keep in mind not to show evidence supporting the existence of fusings"

Fusings are the major way someone can get a five/six link cheap, or you can go overboard and end up gambling too much.

As long as 6L's can drop and be traded for, fusings are fine for what they were intended.

No, it's not.

For example, Chaos Orb. This is another orb which applies a full-reroll, highly random result. However, it's not broken, because there's no line of strict superiority. You can get good items out of Chaos Orbs which upgrade your character in ways you hadn't anticipated, and two different items made from Chaos Orbs can be in a relationship where neither is strictly superior to the other, with pros and cons for each.

I understand that it has a slightly different aesthetic which means it's not good for items you're currently wearing, but hey — Chaos is in its name (and naming is important.). With some Orbs, you are supposed to whittle away at the problem while they're stashed instead of wearing what you're working on. With other orbs, I imagine you don't need to be so picky — like Regals and Exalts — but in general the expectation is to separate active crafters from current gear, and this is completely reasonable.

Orb of Fusing doesn't really fail simply because it's a full-reroll orb. There are ways to make those work. Those ways were not used. (Also, going full-random with a name like "Fusing" is bound to cause more than a little conceptual confusion.)

And I read that as, "I simply don't understand the difference between an engaging RNG system and a poorly designed one." Keep in mind that I consider any particular probability assignment for the "best" result as fair, even if that chance is only 0.0001%; it's the relationship between various results that matters.
