I can't believe what I just read.
The idea that a GGG staff member would be this honest and openly accept accountability for an event of this nature is mind boggling. It simply isn't done by game developers, and only VERY good private enterprise developers ever approach doing anything close to this. Much respect, GGG Jonathan. Don't sweat the small stuff too much. You aren't the first person who has been foiled by having his online spares attached to the same power source, and you won't be the last. It happens, you are addressing it, we can all move on. Thank you for the explanation and for demonstrating that you are a true professional. I don't think there is anything here that requires an apology, but apology accepted. You sir, are a bad ass. 1hr of downtime is nothing compared to some other 'games'.
I'm interested what the nature of the power outage was at the data center? I'm guessing it wasn't just simply losing utility power as most data centers have UPS's that can handle a few hours of runtime of the equipment that are connected. Sounds like maybe a UPS went down? and it turns out all the POE server dual-cord feeds were fed by the one UPS? |
