POE: The Best of Games and the Worst of Games

I love the crafting in PoE.
It makes everyone rage, to the point where they make continuous threads about it.
I hope they never change the crafting system.

Isn't that sick?

I am not convinced it does anything to make people play more, but it certainly will make people leave.

Agree with entire post, but this stands out to me the most. What keeps people playing is engaging game play and the prospect of improving your character. I certainly don't play POE to trade, I don't see it as "engaging game play" at all. And yet, if I want to upgrade my gear, trading is the most efficient and rewarding use of my "currency" than drops or crafting. I miss that feeling of having a good drop that is an upgrade. That feeling is what gets me really excited about playing, and grinding for xp and orbs so I can trade can only carry me for so long.

Good post OP - I usually don't read posts that long but I read yours until the end.

I'm a casual player with just over 100 hours logged on steam and have been playing since closed beta.

Right now, my main is a level 76 spectral throw duelist with pretty good gear and no 5/6 links. I traded 2.5 chaos for a 5-link vaal greatsword and tried to make it on par with my current sword so that I could make use of the extra link. I recently found my *first* exalted orb (since closed beta!) and traded it for chaos. I had around 30 chaos at the time and I said "fuck it" and burned through every last orb trying to make my sword decent. I got one roll that decreased my double strike dps from about 10000 to 8000 and figured I could do better and kept going. I burned through every last chaos orb. Normally, I wouldn't have that many, but was lucky enough to find that exalted orb.

Anyway, I wish the crafting system was less of a gamble. I'd rather play and work towards something knowing that I will be able to upgrade my weapon, even if it's difficult and takes a long time. Why? Because I know that in the end, I will have the sword that I want.

tldr: I agree that the crafting system sucks and want something more stable.

what you said OP, is exactly how I feel, a mix of love and hate, a brilliant game with crushing flaws

Simple fix to the crafting system and not my idea: Weight the currency drops to crafting activity. i.e. the more you craft the more orbs drop........
It's free, quit complaining, and just play the game.
GGG's take on the whole thing:

"hardcore game for hardcore gamers derp"

+1 OP But you are preaching to developers who want it their way or no way it seems. I really wish we had a realistic crafting system.

I don't understand how a game could be considered hardcore when almost everything in the game is decided by RNG, even the desync.
just shut down this abomination already
no drops
insane rng crafting
huge market unbalances
huge technical issues
bad gameplat, a new player is SCREWED , coming into poe, he wont be able to get past 65 without external help
this game is trash bin
