POE: The Best of Games and the Worst of Games

Thanks for the great post and discussion. This kind of constructive thread is very helpful.

I'd like to present my opinion on this. It doesn't necessarily represent any changes we're going to make...

As much as I'd love to make sweeping changes to try to improve how fun and satisfying the item system is, we have to be mindful to do it in the correct way so that the silent majority aren't upset at the changes.

And this is how responding to negative criticism should be done, bravo, Chris.

Keep working hard at this, because if any gaming company can make measured, useful changes to a game, it's you guys :P.

A simple suggestion to improve "crafting" results:

Create a white "gem of crafting" which will improve your odds at getting positive results and will gain efficiency as any other gem and/or craft more items.

Crafting ability would be improved but at the cost of using one equipment slot to keep improving the gem.

Why not create a new crafting material that improves your chances instead. This new material, probably an orb, can only be obtain from killing bosses or from running special maps perhaps. The higher the map, the better the quality of the orb.

This way everyone get to experience the new crafting material. Those who run higher maps will receive a better reward. AND you can control the drop rates per so many runs.

And after they implement this, the forums will be full of posts like "GGG please I'm not a no-lifer streamer and I don't RMT, I'll never get to the higher maps because I don't have the time to play the game so put all the good material everywhere and give us a garanteed orb on hillock".

That's kind of why I suggested to add the drop to bosses. Non Map people will still be able to experience the new crafting material. But those will run higher maps will just get a better reward. There is a lot of upside to this....

And that's why I said that you'll have qq'ers asking to have the better reward not in harder content only. People will never get enough.

-there would be still need to craft , and it could be called crafting

would be very nice and hopefully some of these concepts will make it into the game!

-whats wrong about having lots of good items and optimal ammount of currency just for rolling maps and such ?

why should it be needed to be different items? why not have more than a single use - why not have them be also part of recipes with (partial) foreseeable results aka crafts?

I am not against trading totally, and from that 'group' I may be one of the lowest amount of trades (around a handful since open beta start(!), not counting item swapping with friends) I just respect the basics of economics.

I think most people just misunderstand the currency system.

Orbs are primarily currency. The fact that they can also be used to craft should not be meant to imply that you should use them that way in all cases. The fact that they can be used that way does a very nice job of regulating inflation and pricing.

There are situations where you can leverage them into significant value. "I need boots; I'm going to find some decent level white boots and make myself a good pair of boots" is not such a situation. That is for all intents and purposes like insulating your house by stuffing the walls with crumpled dollar bills. Yes, the bills can be used that way, but it's not a GOOD use of them.

If they ever did put such a thing in the game, it would need to require more currency than the current average cost of creating a 6L, allowing players to hedge their bets against a bad streak of failing with fusings without undermining the inherent value of 6L.

Yeah, because in a mutliplayer online game that explicitly encourages trading, trading is like a baby thing...

POE should re invent Rune Words. I think we all loved the idea of taking white items in D2LOD and turning them into something GODLY or just useable.
