POE: The Best of Games and the Worst of Games

Chris' posts show the theory he used to design the game but also shows that he does not have a good comprehension of how it feels as a player to experience it. Hopefully he gets to play his own game at some point and realise that his theories don't always play out the same way in practice.
Agree with everything. I am lvl 68 and self-found but not for the sake of it, I play self found because the crafting and trading system (if we can call it that) is boring as hell and I don't even wanna touch it. I want to keep playing and be able to find good gears mostly by my self. Call me lazy but as a casual players I think most are like me.
I know several players who like me were playing PoE very often and then after reaching high level stopped playing. I have no problem with trading but opening a forum thread, linking every item I want to sell and checking the value of all my items individually through a website is not something I want to do.

PoE should allow players to mod their game. There are so many great ideas out there and talented people that could perfect this game. Just look at Dota and how popular it became.
I don't read the forums often so I don't know what is their opinion on mods.

That discrepancy is often noticed in developers, to put thing simply either you make game or play it, can't do both. I've used to notice similar "wtf?" moments in interviews of jay wilson or rest of diablo crew.

Can't blame developers for that, nobody can play his own game and all the feedback they get from forums and players is horrifically distorted.

A simple suggestion to improve "crafting" results:

Create a white "gem of crafting" which will improve your odds at getting positive results and will gain efficiency as any other gem and/or craft more items.

Crafting ability would be improved but at the cost of using one equipment slot to keep improving the gem.
nice.

push.
In my opinion, current PoE crafting system really needs one specific type of orb :

As the Eternal orb creates a "snapshot" of the whole item that can be later used to return to (usually when a crafting steps fails), let us introduce a new orb, "Timeless orb".

Timeless orb, when used on magic / rare item would enable user to pick an affix existing on that item and SAVE it to that item until next crafting operation is made (chaosing, divining...)

That could pump some action into the "crafting" system (and expend more chaoses in the process)
I wholeheartedly agree with OP.

The game was fun for a while but even with high MF (160iiq/350iir) I found the drops to be a lackluster. I just dropped more crap and occasionally got lucky. Crafting, haha.. just another way of gambling aside from drops, I stayed as far away from it as I could.

Trading is crap. Honestly, I got low offers all the time, aggressive buyers (from previous trades I presume), in the end I just vendored everything worth less than 2ex because it's just sitting in my inventory for ages and I simply hate trading in this game. Call me a dick if you want, it just saved me time and nerves.

The worst part? All of this gambling doesn't even add complexity or makes the game more fun.

I'm completely burned out, bored to death by PoE. Have sold everything and will give away the rest to my friend.

I may appear rich but I'd greatly appreciate a self-found league with better drops. I don't want to deal with trading or see the economy influenced by RMT and no-life streamers. Just casually play the game the way I want to.

GGG send out an Email to all players if you ever change your mind about that, it's the only way I'd play the game again.

Why not create a new crafting material that improves your chances instead. This new material, probably an orb, can only be obtain from killing bosses or from running special maps perhaps. The higher the map, the better the quality of the orb.

This way everyone get to experience the new crafting material. Those who run higher maps will receive a better reward. AND you can control the drop rates per so many runs.

It will also give a reason to farm bosses on a regular basis..and that’s sooo D2.

And after they implement this, the forums will be full of posts like "GGG please I'm not a no-lifer streamer and I don't RMT, I'll never get to the higher maps because I don't have the time to play the game so put all the good material everywhere and give us a garanteed orb on hillock".

I actually like the crafting system... it's what makes the game fun in the first place. But players who "need the best" find it "an abomination". Here's the thing... no one needs the best. You don't need 6L. You don't need your rares to be optimal. You don't need an item so good that the million players will all give you stuff just to look at it.

The crafting system allows you to dream of this stuff, and makes it next to impossible to obtain it. It's doing it's job perfectly. Yes, it's frustrating. If it weren't, you wouldn't value the items you could create. Yes, it relies entirely on luck. What else would you have it rely on? Skill? What skill?

I think that if you look at it... crafting in PoE is it's strongest point.

Your "bad" points are comments on your (and most players) playstyle... not on the game. If you were to play self found HC, you would find the game a lot more fun. You don't sit in town trading. That's the abomination. You find items all the time. You craft items occasionally. And you die, and get to play the game again. It's fun. You've turned the game into a job and are complaining it's not fun. Learn to have fun.

Completely agreed. It would be near fatal for GGG to take these complaints at face value.

Everyone wants godly gear after one to two months? So many people would leave after that.

Do i think that drop rates suck? No. Do i think that crafting sucks? Hell no! Although i spent around 200hrs into the game.

Play 300+ more hours and you'll most likely figure out that drop rates indeed sucks... I see no difference between early D3 and POE. The idea is basically the same (you find nothing = you need to trade)

Then you never played d3 at launch.

Honestly if you compare PoE's current system to D3, it just makes apparent how much of a sideline gamer you are.
