For some reason it seems some the Alpha testers have become very defensive about the alpha realm asif they feel like criticism of the changes there is somehow offending them personally. Quite odd.

It isn't odd at all; there have been several posts now in numerous other threads about alpha that have pointed fingers at us alpha testers, as though we are responsible for your favorite build being reduced in power.

The alpha testers do bug testing, but we've been primarily focused on polishing act 3. Major overhaul balance changes did not start until very recently, the developers also just came back from break; there has not been enough time to iterate on the very first changes that have been made toward long-term balancing of the game. Game-making is about iteration. It's never right the first time. Get a grip.

People are overreacting to something that has been stated over and over: You guys don't have the full picture. We're not giving you the full picture. You haven't played on alpha. You have no idea the state of the end game and you are making too many snap judgments about changes that were just made.

I hope you know that my post in the other thread was merely playful banter. Nothing more, nothing less.

If I was an alpha tester, I'd claim responsibility for taking peoples favorite builds and reducing them in power. I'd boast about it. Granted, we're not trying to nerf everything fun into oblivion, but that's a question of "how." The "what" of balancing is taking OP things and nerfing them (and/or taking UP things and buffing them).

One thing that's really worrying me about the community is an apparent shift in intention. No, things like writing skill or whether you decide to flame someone don't bother me. What does bother me is that the attitude seems to be shifting towards "play to crush." Let's get this clear: This is not a finished game. If you are playing now, you are a beta tester. You should be playing with the intent to find flaws in the game and correct them. Part of that is the balancing process described above. It shouldn't be entirely the alpha's responsibility (although clearly they have more than us). If you're playing PoE as a beta tester where your only concern is making your character as dominant as possible, you are doing it wrong. (Engaging in this kind of behavior in order to find exploits or bugs is okay, but the exploits and bugs come first.)

If you read the above, and you really have the best interests of the game — not your character — at heart, and you still think the CI nerf is too much or if you want to defend it, you're free to complain about the changes or defend against such complaints. After all, balance is the type of thing where one person may not be a large enough sample size, so getting opinions (especially opinions from smart, innovative types) is still important.

However, to the rest of you, please shut up and leave the real beta testers alone.

There are too many people seeing these changes and immediately thinking and saying:

"X got nerfed too hard, X isn't a viable option anymore."

That is not the intention of these nerfs. And that is also why we are in a Beta and Alpha. Until these changes have been extensively tested no one will know for SURE that these changes are too severe.

With the new keystone that makes you regen energy shield instead of life, does the increased life recovery to life from flasks (drink flask and go check your defensive stats) affect energy shield instead of life now?

SO BASICLY: Does life flasks regen your energy shield?

Because if so, the nerf to CI is not a big.

You can buy chance orbs before Act 3. Not reason for them to cost different in act 3

The proposed changes are not confirmed; alpha testers are still going through them.

Please do not mislead others.
