Don't Remove MF from the Game; Just Cut it in Half
a little bit concerned that the result might not end at what was calculated. numbers are numbers, balance is balance and its a bitch. Would prefer a slower approach, maybe start with cullingstrike back to strikes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcKqhDFhNHI

"As the guy who initially suggested nerfing life nodes while increasing base life, then was a little upset with how it was implemented in 0.11.0... I totally appreciate what you're saying. I don't want to give the impression that this would be an easy fix; instead, it would have to be viewed as a bit of a Beta experiment, with the understanding that the numbers might be off and adjustments made in later patches. (I guess that's assuming there's still enough time in Beta.) However, when major hot-button topics in the forums include The Self-Found League and removing MF completely (both of which are clearly too radical), I thought some voice for moderate reform would be appropriate. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

Yeah, i know, i played the beta-experiment card too when it came to curses back in the days, but those always come with timeinfestments.
Adjusting the numbers of IIRQ is most likely just 1 week, however the following-up threads like "make loot better, i only find thorncrowns" and "too much clutter on screen, reduce items" is i guess: a killer and a loop. " I have no problem with that, i just would make the cut somewhere else (cullingstrike&totems) Yeah, i know i sometimes sound too destructive when it comes to threads. Also im not sure if catering to "hot" topics is beneficial anymore, we are slowly leaving the terms of beta. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcKqhDFhNHI

I think part of the problem with Magic Find like this would still remain with this solution.
Namely that it's still on gear. And provides you with exactly that same thing, gear. It's like having a diamond flask with recharge on crit, it continually fuels itself. You're not really giving up stats when you get gear with MF because, unlike someone without MF, you're going to find better gear with better stats, including even more MF as well as other rolls that compensate for the MF roll not giving any benefit. To put it in a concrete situation. Someone without MF probably is going to find a single decent rare with 4 useful stats which he'll use since there's nothing else. Someone with MF is going to find 3 rares, most likely one of them with more than 4 useful stats, including MF. In the end he's got the same 4 useful combat stats, plus MF and plus 2 other rares for vendoring, trading or alts. There's no loss there. No sacrifice. With MF you get your pick out of several decent rares having a high chance of a few good combat stats plus MF stats. Without MF you're lucky to get a single decent rare with only a few good combat stats. If you factor in trading the equation remains the same. The MFer will find more currency and more rares to sell ensuring he'll have enough to buy gear with both several good combat stats and MF. Someone without MF won't be able to afford a piece with both those things and will have to buy something with only the good combat stats. MF itself is fine to have in-game. But it shouldn't be on gear because that's exactly what it provides. My vision for a better PoE: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/863780

magic find on normal items suxx. even the gems are stupid. and all the create an alt for mf -.- .
They should create a new itemslot and items for this slot have mf and hold the mf gems and give all your abilities the mf boost like trinkets or charms like d2 but not in inventory. mf on random items block item progress. Or create a new gem that eats all exp u gain and gives x % of mf to all skills when linked with item rarity and item quantity. % can be like 1% ... 100% ... 300% depend on the level of this gem. and yes i like the way d3 goes here more. A brilliant post, hopefully GGG takes into consideration to test these theories.

Modified the OP; rather than using a character-level based bonus, or implementing a Merciless-wide bonus as Polaris explicitly suggested, I'm switching to an area-level based bonus.

" I get the same feeling, I wondered if they changed something in the past few days. |

this post really needs more bumps , its really nice to see a good discussion once in a while :D.
imo GGG should really take a serious look at this . The mf in games is a really great concept and we shouldnt just throw it in the can neither make it really fucking easy to get. DO it once u are in beta GGG please :D Last edited by MadBro_#7856 on Aug 30, 2013, 2:24:33 PM
