Removing MF is too difficult at this point, but MF gear should definitely be nerfed as it promotes the following:
1. Boring gameplay for MF players. 2. Players who challenge themselves by playing tough maps are more likely to trade currency for cool gear instead of finding cool gear. 3. Economy receives rare/unique items a lot faster, making drops less exciting a lot faster. My Solution: Halve all IIR/IIQ modifiers on gear and gems. Have rare maps give IIR as well as IIQ. |

"Thanks for your opinion on the topic! This can offset a problem a bit, but I am afraid IIR and IIQ can become like thorns or block/stun recovery - affixes noone wants to see. Removing it altogether and buffing thorns and similar affixes a bit will help with itemization big time in my opinion. |

" Nah, halving everything wouldn't be the best option. Just cap IQ and IR at like 50% so that its easy to cap for everyone while still requiring a bit of gear investment. Increase drop rate / rarity of drops accordingly. |

Completely agree with OP.
Solution: Grant +3% IIQ and IIR per every level gained after level 60 or so, just like the paragon system is D3 which isn't bad at all and actually adresses this issue. |

Honestly, this seems like one of many topics that get inspired by people attributing their own in-game poverty to factors outside their play (w/a little jealousy mixed in). Playing a MF character is one way to become wealthy, but not the only way, at least on HC servers. In fact, it's very difficult to make a MF character that can do anything but farm Lunaris or Docks w/any safety.
Since the big ticket items are the ones with the highest ilvl affixes, there is just as much potential for getting rich just making an effective character that can clear high level maps efficiently. There are diminishing returns for both IIR and IIQ. Link a skill to culling strike, IIR, and IIQ, and finish blues/yellows/uniques with it. This will drastically increase your rate of good drops, w/no IIQ/IIR on gear required. Honestly, getting like 30/50 is more than enough to see a drastic increase, and I don't notice that much of a difference from 30/50 (w/IIQ and IIR gems that becomes ~70/100) to 50/200 (90/250). There are plenty of people that primarily melee (there was a guy who recently posted a guide to farming who only melee'd, just used a culling strike weapon on weap swap) and can farm effectively. Don't blame game design for your own problems. If people spent half as much time setting up a decent IIQ/IIR skill for bosses and getting some pieces with a little bit of IIQ as they did complaining about the mechanic, they'd have nothing to complain about. Yes, the people that can get 100/300 will get even more drops, but that's the way of the world. There are always going to be players richer with better gear, and that wouldn't change if they removed IIR/IIQ. /endrant IGN: Jihokinetic

Magic find is more than good enough currently to encourage stacking it to high heaven on an easy to farm build and just using that character like crazy.

"Very nice post. Unfortunately, the strategy with only IIR/IIQ gems didn't work for me, as just like you, I didn't see any difference in drops. While undergeared Magic Find character has serious problems in soloing anything effectively, at least it has the incentive to play because he will gear up eventually (on top of being very desired in parties as party play is too easy atm). Undergeared character opting out of Magic Find don't solo any more effectively, but have signifcantly reduced chance to self-find any good loot or to stockpile enough currency to buy the loot from the former people. So effectively, MF is top 1 priority for gearing up no matter what build you want to make. As there are builds that get punished less for giving up part of loot affixes for that, any other build choice is just invalid. Soloing maps at levels 83-88 HC significantly changed my own mind about MF. I thought it was just a cool option among other variety of choices. Turns out it is like an exam test answer. |
