PoE 1 PC servers are restarting in: .
They should be back up in approximately .Remove MF completely from game
" They've already all but removed the more problematic half of MF in new leagues. |

There's something inherently broken about the idea of taking a game that's all about finding items and then making it so that the best way to find good items is to not wear those good items. It's like taking FIFA and making it so that the way to advance your chosen team is to play another team from a lower division. Your Manchester United gets points when your Tranmere Rovers wins games, but when you do play Man Utd, you get no points from winning games. Completely backwards and flawed. I'm so disappointed that PoE chose to revive this irrepairably flawed mechanic even after other ARPGs had discovered that it didn't belong as a stat on items.

MF isn't inherently flawed- but the amjnitude is ridiculous at present. It would be fine if a full MF character found maybe 50-60% more uniques/rares then someone with no MF- that sort of modifier would make MF well worth the investment while still allowing build variety by enabling even builds that can't support magic find to progress at a reasonable sped(maybe 2/3 as fast as the guyw ith MF).
At present however, MF characters can easily find 2.5-3x the rares and uniques of the no MF guy. Honestly I think the best solution isn't to nerf MF, but rather give players some baseline MF- the difference between a full MF build and one with maybe 30-40 IIQ & maybe 60-80 IIR is much smaller then the gap between a full MF build and a no MF build. SOmething along the lines of: Add a quest that gives as a reward maybe a passive 20% IIQ & 40% IIR and increase diminishing returns so even with this bonus sohigh MF builds stay about where they are now- maybe nerf the drops slightly in "easy" areas(say everything besides merciless dominus and maps) so players need to do high level maps to fully take advantage of this increase in item drops. "At present its more like 2-3 times the currency and 15 times the number of rares and uniques. I am in the pool of remove this shit from the game. Drops have to be balanced around mf. Imo the easiest is to just completely remove it so drops can be balanced around killing harder content faster, like they should be. |

what I don't understand is why iir doesn't have diminishing returns. in d2, you didn't need to stack absurd amounts of mf cuz every mf after 100 or something starts being less effective (much like stun threshold in this game), so someone with 100mf would get 100% more unis, and a full out 400mf sorc would get something like 225% more. it was an important stat that you can fold into builds
good luck getting anything in poe with under 200mf, cuz drops have to be balanced for full out cullers with 500+ iir and 80+ iiq. so any non mf char who doesn't already have 500ex to buy get tri res life mf gear can't ever find any gear at all, and is forever stuck to posting youtube 6-man carries where they wail on a boss for 12 minutes to get a screen full of whites and blues |

i like MF as a concept:
get your character a bit weaker to get more loot. like artificially doing harder content. BUT the premises for that in this game is wrong because of one thing: parties. when you have 6 people fully decked out and a 500iir culler doing nothing but cull, then you inherently get all the benefits of an absurd IIR/IIQ with none of the mallus. i would personally wanted to have IIR in the game, but with a LOT of tweaks. even a hard cap of 100% IIR wouldn't be out of the question for me, since it would completly eliminate the idea of cullers and such, or making IIR a trully negative stat for the whole party, like 10% less life/100% IIR AURA or something along those lines. |

I haven't read the whole thread so this probably was said at some other point, but I think the best way to tweak MF would be to remove it from item stats completely (uniques notwithstanding), and basically have players get MF from passives and from the IIR gem.
The idea of having MF is great, but as was pointed out, getting awesome gear is kind of pointless when you can't then go and upgrade your gear more because you don't get the MF from it. Rather than having to trade good equips for MF, I would much rather characters give up the scalable DPS portions of their builds (passives and support gems) because it's much more of a tradeoff in terms of DPS+survivability than any amount of MF gear would be. You are effectively neutering their HP/ES and DPS quite a bit while allowing characters who wish to have a squishy MFer to still do so, or faceroll characters the option of trading in a few other nodes for some %IIR/IIQ. It also allows more build and unique/tree interactions which are always good things to have. One of the biggest downsides to the IIR/IIQ stats on items is that they're simply uninteresting to roll, and don't really require much thought or choice when gearing up. That said, doing that would be a huge update, and would change several core elements so I doubt it would happen. In it's current state I think simply removing IIQ and making IIR the more prominent stat with diminishing returns starting at 100% or so would be the best way to approach it. |

MF would be fine if all specs would have to make equal sacrifices to make MF work. But that is not the case.
Right now there's too big of a disparity in loot drops between, say, a MF summoner and a regular dps class. And let's not forget how much of a difference a culler makes in groups. I've made more wealth playing my Summoner for last 2 weeks than with my other character whom I've played for 6 weeks. There's needs to be a middle ground. Nerf MF and buff drops. |
