Why does Lioneye's Glare have no drawback?

That bow has % Physical and %Physical/+Accuracy
Thanks mate, but so you can "easily" beat lioneyes phys damage or not?
I mean 249% phys would be the perfect roll with an additional perfect 25-45 flat physical would outdo a lioneyes very very easily.

Obviously these are perfect rolls but the thread is kinda about how you can´t beat the damage with a rare..
And on top of that you can still get 27% atk speed.

Out of all this time, I dont believe a better phys bow has been found. I could be wrong, but that's what I recall.
Pretty sure the only reason GGG hasn't balanced garbage like this and kaom's heart is because they don't want items as strong as these to be 'legacy items'. The current Kaoms and LG will retain they're current stats even if they are nerfed.

And why couldn't they just retroactively change them?

Here is a note from last patch "The unique item Tipua Kaikohuru has had its name changed to The Goddess Bound. Hellbringer has been changed to Voidbringer. Old items will still have the old name, while new ones that drop will have the new one." They can not even change the name of items to affect every item in existence let alone entire stats, Chris explained this once but I forgot the reason he said why they couldn't. This is exactly what would happen to items like LG and Kaoms if they do get changed, current ones will keep they're stats while any new ones that drop will be affected.

I think best thing GGG could do is ramp up affix and suffix mods at higher levels above 77 when they come, along with mob values. An armor with 3k+ armor and 300+hp would be a good contender against Kaom slot.

This is a technical limitation

In order to retroactively fix all items, they have to bring the game offline, do a backup of their entire database, then a massive migration (to apply the nerf), and then make sure the migration worked

In fact, they can do it right now, its probably one of those "do all these kinds of nerfs at once" or "we don't have an efficient process yet" or "too risky in order to preserve data" kind of things, or a combination of above

From a player's standpoint, this is still horrifying.

From the standpoint of someone who designs uniques, it is doubly so.

Question is, could they have done it better or is this just the way it has to be? How do other games 'nerf' items already in peoples' hot little hands?

Well the thing is, their database is probably gigabytes in size (heck it even could be a terabyte in size now), and any sought of migration of this sought they need to do is going to take insane amounts of time, especially if they want to backup (which they always should). Its just what happens when they have a F2P game that is holding a massive number of accounts

It also completely depends what kind of database GGG has used

What I am guessing is that they will do these kind of nerfs, all in one go (that way you only need to backup once)
I have never played an archer. When I find a LG, I will consider it. After all, that's the only 'real' bow in this game right? Just like Kaom's is the only 'real' armour chest.
My fanboydom doesn't stretch as far as refraining from saying "GGG you are clueless on item balancing, and when you have devs that run multiple stripmines in their MtG decks, I'm not surprised."
