PoE Performance Issues still present. Need a word harsher than abysmal.

These are interesting results to say the least. Variance shadows play a big deal on the spike issue. Perhaps these are two different problems after all.

The issue I made this thread for is most certainly a continuos occurence, it will not go away until the offending elements are removed or otherwise culled to minimal.

ThePassenger, just to confirm, are your spikes occuring on first usage of a skill, or mob spawn, or every time? This is important, as some things aren't preloaded.
Going to spoiler this as its going to be big.

Now for the screens i went for the only char i notice frame rate drops which i would consider normal given the gfx card being pretty meh and the amount of stuff going on because of LA GMP and chain.
V-sync is on on theses screens btw

Spoiler

first 2 pics of the task manager when idling in town

first screen idle in town

Outside of town using LA,GMP,Chain and some auras

Same idea but in the docks

as you can see in the second pic of the docks i have a big ass lag spike AND 1 fps which tbh i did not expect.

The task manager after porting to most areas in act 3 rapidly

and to top it all 2 clients running

the second client was just sitting on the login screen

Now i have said before that i don't have much of a problem with frame rates bar what i would consider normal given that the gfx card is not what is considered a "gaming" card...i don't tend to run about with the fps and latency showing....i was surprised to see it dip to 1 fps though

Hello all,

I use a laptop for PoE with a Intel Core i5 2520M @ 2500 MHz and Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
so not exactly the same issues like you all...
But I noticed something that may be of help:

If I play normally I get on 1600x900 large spikes from 0 to around 60 FPS... that makes the game not really enjoyable..

I solved the issue with a D3D FPS limiter - FPS_Limiter_0.2 from Warpspider I think.

By using this little util and limiting the FPS to 35 FPS I get a very steady FPS with bearely any drops (only when changing areas). - Can you guys try this and limit your FPS to let's say 100 FPS? and see if it helps...

Don't know if it makes any difference but maybe it can help you getting to the bottom of this.

P.S.
What I'm trying to say is that the spikes problem does not apear only for med-high video cards but also for low end video cards..

Regards
Just tried an fps limiter...the fps simply drop from 30 to 0 instead of from 110 to 0 lol

But thx anyway, there was atleast a small chance this would do anything ;)

ThePassenger, just to confirm, are your spikes occuring on first usage of a skill, or mob spawn, or every time? This is important, as some things aren't preloaded.

The spikes occur only on the first usage of a skill, but everytime when the mobs are spawning, also when i'm in empty town, everything is ok until someone joins my instance.

It seems like the incoming packets or memory allocation are blocking the rendering thread.

First usage of a skill makes sense, this is documented as a known problem and is due to effects not being preloaded, and is not part of the spike issue.

As for mob spawns spiking, this too can be a resource loading spike, unless this occurs with the same type of mob several times over the course of a single area.

The FPS limiter trick worked for jjay81 because his spikes are related to thermal throttling. Laptops simply aren't meant to have such heavy workloads, thus he spikes when the temperature gets too high, however, by using an FPS limiter, the rendering engine is forced to work a lot slower, leading to less load on the laptop, and fewer thermal issues.
I'm pretty sure the spikes issue is because of incoming packets blocking the rendering thread. It happens on every mob encounter.
My issue is the exact same as ThePassengers.

Nothing more to add, sadly.
Same happens for me as I posted before; want to clarify though that I don't use vsync. I do use variance shadows, though (never tried without).
Is this still not getting fixed??

dock runs and maps are unplayable most of the time
