PoE Performance Issues still present. Need a word harsher than abysmal.

I have had the same issues since I started playing back in closed beta, massive fps spikes sometimes even freezing up for a second...I dont like playing with a full party just because it gets much worse, I dont have a good computer but it would seem that even good computers are having this issue here are my current specs.

I3 dual core 2.9gz
4gb ram
nvidia geforece 9500gt

Probably getting a new comp in the nearish future would really suck to have the same problems with a good computer, hope they are still working hard on this issue its a big one. I love playing hardcore/onslaught and as you can imagine I have died many times to a fps spike

Problem here is that it can happen even with your new computer. This game needs optimization. Problem is that GGG is very small company and they need also introduce new content to attrackt new players. Optimization is not so easy so it can take some time and you need good programers to do it and lot of time for all that debuging and profiling.

It will be forever there.

PC Spec:
ASRock 970 Pro3
Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition /clocked to 4012 per core/
2x4gb DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX
GTX560 Non Ti /Clocked core 900/
Samsung 2233rz true 120hz

The game is unplayable at 120fps with Vsync no matter what the graphics are.
CPU Usage goes to 40% at max, when GPU Usage never goes over 70% even with AA and AF /Even if i force them tru the drivers to overwrite, even FXAA on and supersampling etc.../
Goes cool at 60hz but aint smooth even w/o droping a frame...

Out of my love for this game I have to confirm the FPS issue(s); I played most of the time at my gaming rig at home, FPS spikes are there but are barely influencing gameplay negatively because the PC is very heavy (Intel i7 3930 6core, ASUS ROG board X79 chipset, 16GB DDR3@1866, PCIe SSD 500/400 R/W and AMD Radeon HD 7970 OC edition).

But... I now play at my gaming laptop @ holiday and I now encounter FPS spikes from 1-90+. Its not a silly office laptop but a decent high-end laptop; Intel i7 2630QM 4core, Intel chipset based mobo, 12GB DDR3@1333, Intel 2nd or 3rd gen SSD, Nvidia GeForce GT 555M). Playing with all settings to low (no shadows) gives huge FPS spikes and FPS-lag; in big battles FPS regularly drops to ~ 10fps, everything stalls multiple times and when kiting it looks like a movie which is played at 0.25x speed and then suddenly with 10x speed (I give the move command, nothing happens for a moment and suddenly roesh... I run with ~ 100% increased movement speed to the designated location). In the Sarn encampment the character moves as if there were patches of chilled ground.

I also noted that both my laptop and my brothers PC (mediocre PC with first gen i7, 8GB DDR3@1066, Intel 2nd gen SSD, AMD Radeon HD 7850) are experiencing very heavy VGA load; when being idle in Sarn encampment the cooling fan of the VGA card blows constantly at full throttle.

To put things in perspective: On that same laptop I can play Starcraft II fluently @ high settings, played hours of FP shooters like Team Fortress @ much higher quality settings at a stable 55-60+ FPS. While I'm no coder, to me a game like SC II has a comparable VGA demand (battle is fast paced, lots of different objects and interactions between them to keep track off, lots of simultaneously applied particle effects etc.).

I played the game a lot, dare to say I know my monsters. As a good player I try to kill the most dangerous ones first. At home, I'm in full control of my char, whatever command I give gets executed. On my laptop though, I'm barely able to target individual monsters in bigger battles. Someone once stated that he regarded LA as a sort of a lame-man skill; you can just spam it without proper targeting and kill monsters nevertheless. Well, though from hardcore-gaming perspective I agree, without that ability I certainly lost all my precious XP to multiple deaths already; regularly the game stalls so bad that the only thing i can do is keep spamming LA and hope the LGoH saves me till I regain control over my char again. We don't dare to run more difficult maps @ holiday. But that's not how the game was meant to play. Luckily we still have the trade system :D

I hereby would add another plea to GGG to prioritize optimizing the game technically. I honestly believe that solving these issues is far more important in terms of growing/maintaining the number of players than adding some new features/skills. EDIT: Not that I don't like to see new skills or features, on the contrary, but what is the point of adding new skills/features in a already very option-rich game when all that lovely content can't be enjoyed properly due to performance issues?

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS FEEDBACK IS GIVEN OUT OF PASSION FOR THE GAME; IF YOU ISSUE ANOTHER FUNDING TARGETED AT TECHNICALLY OPTIMIZING THE GAME I'LL CERTAINLY DONATE GENEROUSLY (AGAIN).

Note to all people experiencing FPS-spikes: I found that limiting the framerate to 60fps using a tool such as MSI Afterburner gives some tiny improvement.

EDIT 2: I experienced that running the game from a ramdrive gave me by far the biggest improvement. I also run Radeon Pro (works with Nvidia cards too!) to limit the game to use only 4 of the 8 logical cores in an attempt to not use the hyperthreading cores to optimize peak CPU performance as hyperthreading sadly cannot be disabled in my laptops BIOS, need to hack my BIOS to do that, but while it helps bumping overall performance a tiny bit it didn't prevent the FPS-spikes.
So I advice all players that have the luxury of 12+ GB RAM: Try the ramdrive trick, I used SoftPerfect RAM Disk and found you don't need anything else, all you need for the ramdrive-from-image-trick (http://webcdn.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/108231/page/1) is build-in and the app is configurable via a decent graphical interface. Using MSI Afterburner + Radeon Pro + ramdrive the stuttering and FPS-drops are still there, but a lot less, the game is fairly playable now.

I've had these performance issues as well. mainly in sarn but also in the later part of act 2.
the fps rate is dropping making it unplayable and multiple times it crashes. this is particularly annoying when it crashes just as you find a nice drop or reach the new way-point. Really frustrating and please fix this.
Bumping a thread that I am shocked doesn't have more GGG replies.

ATI HD 7950 here. Gets high frame rates with the constant drops to 1-10fps when in groups. Seriously why hasn't this been fixed?
Hi GGG, im now returning to play since months ago, last time when i played POE was working fine, today i joined the game and the loading screen was loading like forever, so slowly even blocks, in the end i managed to enter the game, Eu server, just to see how it works, first i was at mud flats, killing some mobs and noticed the lag spikes or how to name it, it was like 3 second freeze then ok, 3 sec freeze then ok, everytime does like this, i tried to run only the necessary programs when i play POE, i tryed with razer game booster also, still the same and finaly i got to the conclusion that the game is not running how it supposed to run, guess you need to do some optimization guys.

Did the scans for malware, spyware
Did the scans for viruses
Did the reg clean
Checked the internet connection
Content.ggpk is ok, already did the check
Tried with vsync on/off, post processing on/off, graphics medium/high and still the same.
I don't know what to do, but i guess this problem is caused by the latest patches, coz when i played months ago the games was doing fine, no lag spikes, i was doing fine even when 100 mobs next to me.

Anyway i hope to see this game on steam, maybe a coop with valve will help you guys fixing the problem and getting some extra money.

Game will never be on steam when it runs this shitty. They need to hunker down and seriously get some optimization going.

Last i heard steam wasn't on the horizon.
Also 30% + of optimization went tin the game for 0.11.4, not like they are slacking.
More going in with 0.11.5 from what Chris had said.
