Loot
" Because the entire idea of competetive play is that we are all playing the same game under the same rules. And it is a fight for who does it best. |
" Good point. This game will have a ladder and all that, imagine how it would be if some people were getting some extra protection. |
imagine if the server rules were different and you still had the compitition cause everyone on your server was for ffa loot and everyone against ffa loot had their own server. problem solved right there

Reading this thread is really fascinating - there are lots of good arguments from both camps (having options vs having purely FFA loot). We'll be posting our thoughts on it at some stage soon.
I am not saying there won't be options for this, but we are trying to avoid having options for everything. One thing you'll notice about action RPGs is that typically have far less options than traditional MMORPGs (both in terms of gameplay features and areas like UI customisation). This is done to both promote simplicity and also to keep the focus on the gameplay rather than tweaking options or party settings constantly. | |
Two quick things:
1. Some people promoting ffa loot say that if people don't like it they should play with friends. This isn't a good solution as we don't want to fight over loot with are friends either. 2. The combat in this game looks freaking sweet. In some of the trailers there is a lot of enemies on screen and some of them come at you really fast. With that kind of fast paced combat I only want to have to worry about where I am in relation to the enemies, not where I am in relation to the sweet loot that just dropped. I want to concentrate on staying alive and keeping other people in my party alive, not worrying about rushing over to what just dropped. I think ffa loot takes away from combat. I am a poor freezingly cold soul
So far from where I intended to go |
" So you're telling me you're willing to fight with your friend for virtual items in a game that could later be acquired by...playing the game with your friends? Yeah, I'm starting to believe there is a certain kind of people who needs the player specific loot. |
" Thumbs up. I say lets let the topic rest until we hear more from the devs. |
It's good to know the devs are still reading this 20-page thread.
If it is FFA only, then we will just deal with it. The community will be forced to deal with the issue of ninja looters and separating who gets what loot when it is good for multiple classes. I think that is the big issue. Since every class can be customized for nearly any build, that means that a lot of item drops could be potentially useful to multiple people in the party. Seems like a very hard thing to sort out, especially when magical/rare items drop and need to be identified first. Then you are hoping the person who grabbed it tells the truth? Or what if you don't even see the item drop amidst the spell spamming and the melee char picks it up? The D3 solution of you get your own drops does seem like the best solution. |
" we are gonna need to find something else to talk about then lol. this thread is keeping this place going right now |
" the more the talk goes on the more it sounds like the game will be ffa loot but with some system to try and make it fair for the lag players and range characters. what it will probably do is cause people to go off solo more or only play with friends. if it is ffa loot only then thats something i would deal with. if the game is fun i will still play it and either deal with ninja looters, become a ninja looter, or just play alone/with friends. just seems to me that ffa only loot is an outdated loot system for a rpg game |
