Hi Guys, following on from my previous post - this is Tyr's elemental bow skilltree

Now, can someone explain why it would be more beneficial to stack ele/weapon ele damage, rather than phys/projectile damage?

10% elemental damage/weapon damage is equivilant to 5% physical/projectile damage - if I understand it correctly - as you will get bonuses to both parts of the attack with the latter.

I must be wrong about something otherwise why would people stack so much ele damage *shrugs* when there are nearby phys/projectile nodes.

projectile damage works on physical and elemental, as long as it is a projectile skill or a wand or bow. physical damage with bows, is just physical. elemental and weapon elemental is elemental damage with skills but weapon elemental doesn't work on spells or non weapon things.

all 4 plus specific elemental damage, work on bow skills lightning arrow, ice shot, and burning arrow.

what concerns me about the passive tree linked there is the long distance it goes and with low early defenses.

I suggest you post questions about your build at class discussion.

But I can answer the mechanic related parts:
(1) A lot of damage source in this game is elemental damage (auras, modes from equips), and elemental damage nodes are usually elemental, instead of specific types such as fire/ice/lightning. In addition to all that, there's no ranged version of Melee Physical Damage support gem.

(2)Not sure about now, but the build I used to have at closed beta, about each 4% elemental damage node gives me the same damage of 8% or more physical damage node. I did stack quite a bunch of flat elemental damage, but you get the idea.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

Wow, the idea you would get twice the DPS with half the ele damage compared to phys is indeed surprising. Just how much flat elemental damage are you likely to accumulate on an elebow build though?

No idea really. But generally, if you're not specifically stacking only physical damage, elemental damage will win out (assuming comparing 5% elemental vs 5% physical), as there are a lot of source of flat elemental damage. Aura such as anger, hatred, wrath, are all elemental damage (though hatred is also affected by physical). And on item mods, you can have fire/ice/lightning damage (3 mods) as opposed to physical damage having only 1 mod.

But this is only for ranged weapon, as I mentioned before there's no ranged version of "melee physical damage" gem while there is a "more elemental weapon damage" gem. Melee you can have a lot more physical damage.

Can someone confirm wether or not IIR% or IIQ% works on auras such as wrath?

Thanks!

what itemlevels are required for X number of sockets?

Stated explicitly in the first two posts. Use your browser's search function.

no it doesn't...

they only state that the number of sockets depends on itemlevel, they also give a link to all the items' base stat/itemlevel etc. but theres nothing about the actual number of sockets per itemlevel.

It doesn't because Wrath doesn't make damage, it's just a buff. But your attack will use your IIR and IIQ

Is there a best character level or levels to use an orb to turn a white item to blue magical or yellow rare?

ie:
In Diablo II, a toon at Lvl32 was the best lvl. lvl32 was the start of when your imbued items can have any stat available.
Below lvl32, you have 0% chance of getting some of the higher stats.

so in Path of Exiles, is there an optimum lvl?

lv 68, but go ahead and use your orbs to make blue items if you really need to use them, same fore the orb to make rares but use those rarely.

Now that we know the 'optimum' level to do this.. just use your Orbs whenever you want.

Me.. I'm more interested in 'actually playing the game and having fun', as opposed to delaying gratification for the sake of gambling on better gear, that I could just as likely get from a random drop.

I think this sort of 'gambling' is useless and actually detracts from the game, unless you are a triple-a player or have ocd.

Just go and enjoy yourself and use an Orb if you think it would help.. at any time at all.

agreed, lv 68 is simply the highest level the game counts you as for penalties to drop rates of currency. maps go higher to lv 75 and so do items AND the mods with it. there is absolutely no reason to min max as far as levels are concerned. highest non endgame map level is i think 62? so thats when to start "crafting".

if someone has to, please check the affix list on the website. it will list the value ranges for a specific level and the general types of boosts for everything. DO go ahead and use items to help yourself, or bank the items so you can buy some other player's items. however i don't know how often that happens in low levels (too busy).
