Leap Slam has its own base attack time. Your slow maul has an increased attack speed mod, whereas the faster one doesn't. So the slow one makes Leap Slam faster, the fast one does not.
Does a supported Item Rarity gem only apply the IIR% when an ememy is killed by that specific skill or all kills?

Just like every Support gem, it only applies to the linked skill :)
Hi Guys, following on from my previous post - this is Tyr's elemental bow skilltree

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgYAAnEEBwSzBToFWwx9DkgPqxB_ES8RlhRNFVAWvxnXHhofAiaVJ6kqWy0fMoky0TZ7NsU9X0VHRtdMs03YUlNTNVVLVi1X4l3GYG1h4m0ZbWxte3BScrt2EXflfll-r3_GgW-DOISvh9uIa4uMjDaMdpeVm7WdgJ48nqGiAKKjpLGnCKx_r5u1BLVItve4k8BRwfPDOsXMxp7LQdIZ1tHYJNrd3fPhc-OE53Tr7u0g73zwH_Pq_5M=

Now, can someone explain why it would be more beneficial to stack ele/weapon ele damage, rather than phys/projectile damage?

10% elemental damage/weapon damage is equivilant to 5% physical/projectile damage - if I understand it correctly - as you will get bonuses to both parts of the attack with the latter.

I must be wrong about something otherwise why would people stack so much ele damage *shrugs* when there are nearby phys/projectile nodes.

I suggest you post questions about your build at class discussion.

But I can answer the mechanic related parts:
(1) A lot of damage source in this game is elemental damage (auras, modes from equips), and elemental damage nodes are usually elemental, instead of specific types such as fire/ice/lightning. In addition to all that, there's no ranged version of Melee Physical Damage support gem.

(2)Not sure about now, but the build I used to have at closed beta, about each 4% elemental damage node gives me the same damage of 8% or more physical damage node. I did stack quite a bunch of flat elemental damage, but you get the idea.

How is damage effectivness taken into account when calculating damage? Take for instance Ligtning arrow with 70% effectivness. Im assuming that means that the final damage is multiplied with 0.7, is that correct? Or is it subtracted from the other % bonuses to that attack, just like % bonus damage stacks additvly?
The damage effectiveness is applied last, so 70% effectiveness means multiplying it by 0.7 after all the bonus are taken into account (not sure when curses are involved, but it shouldn't change anything as both are multiplicative).

The damage effectiveness is introduced to avoid player using a high level support gem in combination with a low level skill gem to obtain high damage buy low mana cost. The damage of the said skill gem has already be increased so the 70% will result in the same damage before damage effectiveness is introduced.

Yes, only works on said spell/skill; and destroying objects doesn't count as a kill.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

Wow, the idea you would get twice the DPS with half the ele damage compared to phys is indeed surprising. Just how much flat elemental damage are you likely to accumulate on an elebow build though?

You mean to tell me that the increased attack speed of the SLOWER mace makes the leap slam faster???
