The new portal system is a good compromise
" I've been gaming for 48 years. I was gaming when you could die on the final boss in Ninja Gaiden and have to do the entire game over again. And yet, the punishment for death in this game is too damn steep. You want a challenge? Play competitive FPS or RTS games. I play this game to listen to music, blast monsters and gather loot to give away to other players. I don't play it to "challenge" myself. That's what I play Marvel Rivals for. " This idea that any ARPG is "challenging" is a joke people tell themselves so they can feel like "muh pro gamer". POE, Diablo, LE, etc. are not a challenge, they're a time sink. The fact that you can go from struggling in T15 maps to deleting T4 content in seconds because you bought 1-2 pieces of gear is proof of that. You didn't pass a difficult "challenge" to get that gear, you spent time and used resources to obtain it. Most deaths in POE aren't because you mistimed a dodge or were .5 seconds too late on pressing your flask button, nor are they a case of "should have used X ability instead of Y". Most deaths are either instant or random amalgamations of mods on strong rares that are designed to be a hard counter to certain builds. Last edited by yummysushipjs#7638 on Mar 28, 2025, 11:53:19 AM

"Facts. I hate the "everything now / instant gratification / zero friction" generation with a passion. Instead of playing games that are made for them, they demand games to warp around their needs. Last edited by Ulsarek#7159 on Mar 28, 2025, 12:24:04 PM

"Yes. A specific game doesn't have to be for everyone. There is variety in every genre and that is the beauty of gaming. If I don't like a game or feel it doesn't respect my time, I'll go and play something else. I do provide feedback but I absolutely do not expect the developer to cater to my specific needs, effectively turning the game I don't like into something else just so I might like it. I respect developers and their design choices. If they don't align with my fun - fine, someone else will enjoy it. It really is that simple. Last edited by Ulsarek#7159 on Mar 28, 2025, 12:36:36 PM

This is 100% correct. There is a difference in feedback between "I dont like having to do so many towers it feels clunky" where they change towers to be less and more rewarding. And saying "This game is dogshit the devs have no idea what they are doing, why cant i just get upgrades to my gear every map" One is constructive to what the devs have built the other is nonsense.

"Well, you are right. Still, this is not poe1 and it is a beta. Do you realize this is about ego? There is no accomplishment in having put in more lifetime to achieve the same. Isnt it just more fun actually having a mirror or 3 each season and if I go 300h instead of 100 for one char I can have a temporalis? Do you realize that they just do it to make people engaged longer? How about making a game that is worth to play for the sake of playing. Now, you get me with dopamine. But not with endless grind and complicated more time consuming inventory managment. D2 makes that way better already. So I could argue go play that and leave me my game here... |

" Hello fellow older gamer :P Glad someone sees it as i do. This whole idea of „PoE 2 is so hard“ is nonsense. You are also right when it comes to most deaths, albeit i would add the obviously poor design choices (visual clutter) and balance issues, which can be fixed. The punishment in this game is only a time sink, and i think most people get that, and it´s way overdone, because the xp needed to level up later, is way too high. Losing loot is not that of an issue, as most is trash, currency however does hurt, because they refuse to address the botting/rmt issues and the joke of an economy that goes with it. Now if the stick with 1 Portal on a juiced up map, that would add another layer of punishment/time sink to the game. One that I think, will be too much for some players and rightfully so. This may change before the patch release. The real issue that bothers me in that regard is however, that in an interview with WCCFTECH, the game director said this concerning the portal change and the issue of loot: “That is the case. However, I guess the theory here is that you shouldn't generally need to take more than an inventory or two full of items. It is a concern, though, and we'll have to see how well it works. I would hope there's something that we can do to alleviate that. I'm just thinking right now that maybe after the map is completed, we could allow potentially more, but I'll have to think about that. It's actually something that I should probably um investigate a bit more.” “Um”, yeah, it´s almost if they throw something out and don´t think it thru. That´s after all the same person that said that they shouldn´t need an item filter. If you can find the sarcasm, you can keep it. ;) |

No it's not.
Just give the 6 portals like God intended. ~ Seph

There’s this idea floating around that PoE2 isn’t really hard because it doesn’t rely on twitch reflexes, like difficulty only counts if it’s mechanical. The real challenge is in the decisions you make long before you click anything. HC players push into the high 90s with no second chances, and the risk of dying to a misstep, bad map mod, or a plethora of other scenarios. That’s not about fast hands—it’s about understanding the game. Meanwhile, folks in softcore with trade access are complaining it’s too punishing when they lose a portal. The system isn’t broken—it just doesn’t reward people who skip the thinking part.
