Most people are playing the same build. Most people are playing screen clearing builds as that is the safe way to play.
Multiplayer with friends is Not Fun with only 1 portal/1life per player.

Sure. But it also makes no damn sense from a design standpoint to give someone the chance to smash themselves into the same content they can't do six times instead of once, and then punish them each time they fail.
That is tunnel vision.
There is other motives to have six portals.
One example occurred last weekend when the server abruptly went down without notice, how many people lost good content and wasn't a death or players fault. I felt pretty bad I lost a Stone Citadel, which is hard to find, but lucky already had killed Doriany and got the fragment, but know is there a wasted L82 cidadel I couldn't finish...
Or when there is a "unexpected disconnection" and it is counted as death closing the portal.
Or when the game crashes and the client resets saying you changed "the location where you connected"...
Just a few cases it isn't death or skill issue. Yet, one portal bite you in the behind, wasting time, resources and mining patience/good faith with the game.

1 portal needs to go, that is the only thing that needs to go, exp penalty is fine, dropped loot shouldnt disappear because of death, i dont mind if the entire maps living mobs vanish when you die, what i do care about is the loot that has already been dropped

There is none. Zip. Zero. Nada. Zilch-all. Jack monkey fuck-all squat. "No one's asking for infinite tries" is a dumb counter-argument to make because there's no actual practical difference between six tries and Infinite Tries. You're still asking to be allowed to Death Blitz the map and die/fail freely without cost or penalty.
The great screeching caterwaul for Six Portals is dumb because it has absolutely zero basis in rationality or gam design beyond "THIS IS WHAT IT WAS LIKE IN PoE1 AND PoE1 IS A PERFECT GAME THAT HAS LITERALLY DONE NOTHING WRONG EVER IN THE HISTORY OF GAMING AND EVERTHING SHOULD BE EXACTLY LIKE PoE1 FOREVER".
Others have said it - six portals with heavy EXP loss on death is a fucking trap. It means you burn up an entire level on content you weren't ready to do, instead of just one chunk of EXP. It's fundamentally backwards. It makes far more sense to retain One Portal with no EXP loss - instead of retroactively stealing progress you've already made, you simply do not progress forward. Blocking forward progress is much preferable to destroying already-achieved progress. Blocking continued progress makes you want to fix your shit so you can continue progressing. Stealing already-achieved progress makes you want to throw a controller and quit.
Frankly, I'm annoyed at myself that I didn't get the supporter pack map device that only provides a single portal. That would solve a lot of this, methinks - if people don't see six portals, they won't care about not getting to use the extraneous ones that really have no business being there. Refit the map devices in PoE2 to only show a single portal, and if you have to limit entry to the instance for economic reasons? Give that portal charges limiting how many players can enter it.
It's stupid. It's all just stupid. Just a bunch of knee-jerk reactionary howling from people who haven't fired a neuron voluntarily since 2009 and aren't about to start now.
I think this is backwards. There are plenty of reasons to have more than one portal. You could simply die from being careless and you are more than capable of finishing the map without dying again. You could gave very valuable loot on the ground to scoop up. One portal is just too problematic. No xp loss is a bad idea. It just pushes everyone to play glass Canon because dying has no big impact.

Man. This thread is another sterling example of how people thinking with their PoE1 brains is going to ruin PoE2 completely before Early Access even ends.
Why did Grinding Gear even bother spending all these years making a new game if none of you people will ever accept ANYTHING being remotely different between the two?

You're absolutely right. Since poe1 had exp loss we should not be scared to to try new things like removing exp loss from the game. Cuz why even bother if you won't accept anything being different.

Yep, definitely lost some maps thanks to a random crash or DC. Hell, I lost a Trial once after portaling back to town after having portaled back to town like 5 previous times in the same kind of trial. Just up and ate my attempt. The solution for one-attempt doesn't even have to be the full 6 portals, either, they could just redo it completely such that you have three attempts total per player, but infinite town portals out and back in (I sincerely doubt that could be significantly abused, just don't allow a townportal to spawn in a boss arena). I can only imagine what multiplayer feels like as a result of the current situation. I only ever play solo.
