Controversial AF. Crafting negatively impacts this game.

I always play solo self found in PoE1 because I find trading kind of tedious and not fun. It's exciting to have a cool sword pop out of a monster you kill. It's not that exciting to buy a cool sword on fantasy-amazon or whatever.

I'm not going to make the argument that there shouldn't be trading- clearly many people like it. But I would like more support for playing solo to keep up. I don't think SSF got any drop rate changes or anything, sadly.

I'd often see build guides that were like "you totally need this unique and that unique, go trade for them" and that's just a big meh for me. Crafting stuff from components or whatever is fine, if it's not too much of a slog.

I don't mind trading at all. I just feel the way it's currently implemented, and the economy in this game in general, negatively impacts most peoples experience.

I don't think it's going to be a great addition to PoE 2.

POE2 has crafting? thought I was just gambling with orbs in slot machine. :p

this is the entire problem.

this also saves the devs from having to have decent in game loot and itemization.

Everyone wants an auction house or player stores. And even with that, yes it might reduce time spent. But you're still going to spend quite a bit of time looking.

Not sure that's a good solution compared to just fixing the loot.

Fundamentally I think this is where the souls like and ARPG aspects clash the hardest.

It genuinely feels like a Project Zeus moment from Peep Show.

Probably still beats console users having to fire up a laptop or their phone in order to do what a PC user can do with alt+tab though.

Can you imagine navigating a store in a game like this with a controller? Lol.

Just look at the trade site and you'll get an aneurysm.

Man.

This is an absolutely perfect post. I really, really hope people at GGG read it and take it to heart, but I can almost guarantee they won't.

Between PoE 1 and 2 I've put in over 1000 hours, and I have never - NEVER - looted an endgame piece of gear off the ground. How that's considered a good system is beyond me.

Crafting just sucks. Who wants to waste currency crafting on a base item 999 times and failing before finally getting the piece they want on the 1000th try? That is terrible gameplay.

So what do people do? They farm currency and hoard it. They go to the trade site. The most exciting thing about loot in PoE is that moment when you finally farmed enough orbs so you can just buy what you want from someone else. We're all playing Orb Tycoon.

It's really, really bad and it ruins an otherwise great game. GGG set out to make the best ARPG combat the world has ever seen and they nailed it. PoE 2's combat is insanely good, but the trading / crafting system make it all for naught.

In addition, I'd like to point out that this D2 style inventory shit is 30 years old at this point. It wasn't great then and it's downright abysmal now. I have to leave maps 2-3 times to identify, disenchant and/or sell. It takes so much time away from the thing that makes the game great - the combat. When a single shield can take up 1/3 of my inventory, it's not smart. It's not engaging. It's just not fun.

They gotta sell stash tabs though, I guess.
