Absolutely disapointed -- This game is hard, and not in a fun way.

I'm extremely new to the series and died a few times until i had to recognize his patterns then killed him no problem. I disagree big time i think to many games are just to easy to play. So far the difficulty imo is perfect. I think they could make a casual mode if they wanted to but leave this mode as is. This has more potential than just GOTY and messing with the difficulty wouldnt be good just my opinion. I came to a game like this because i was tired of how easy it is to pass through other games i hope they dont change this.
not that disappointed as OP, but they got a point there...

first... positives:
I like the visuals very much, transports the feeling ('better move with caution!') very well.
The skill gem system feels good! Not too complicated and well explained.
The hodded one and TP skill.
Almost all texts have voiceover, if not all.

not so positive in my experience:
That Joe-Shely-moment someone got when they placed the well in town to fill up the potions...
What is this? What happened to the good old 'enter town to refill'? It just makes no sense, but to frustrate people who forget to refill, having to go back?

about controls: they just feel bad. I understand that this is also a console game and controls have to work there as well, but this is just clunky. Characters just move constantly in all given directions while me trying to micromanagement the movement and skills. It's not adding to the fun.

Back on the wider approach, my curve was like this:

- Start Sorceress as class I really was excited about, wanting to try.
- Get frustrated, go back to old meta class Witch and feel slightly better (so much for 'this game is not PoE 1').
- With time comes better adaption of gameplay and better damage.
- Still is a very slow paced game, I move very cautiously (which is ok).
- Getting better... getting more powerful.

....and got hit by a sh*tload of damage with the next boss which kills me instantly.
Balance is not right in some encounters, even if you learned the patterns.

In the current state the game is more comparable to 'No Rest for the Wicked' than D4/PoE 1.
I hated 'No Rest for the Wicked' so much, it was just unfair trying to pretend it was 'hard'.

I like souls games, but I feel PoE should not be one of them.

First there was complexity in PoE1, making it a 'non casual' game.
Then there is PoE2 removing some of the complexity and replacing it by unfair game mechanics?

but that's what EA is for... test out... listen to feedback... and hopefully tweak the game.

DO NOT nerf this game please! Go play autobattlers if you find it to hard lol.
So far it looks like GGG want to please only streamers and 1% of top elite.

Rest can die 999999x times and just quit.
My 2 cents here. Even for those of us who don't think the campaign, as is, is too hard, we need to consider to bigger picture. Don't forget what the 'grinding' in GGG stands for, it's also about the tediousness. Don't forget a lot of casual players want faster pacing, LOOT EXPLOSIONS when you kill bosses, character progression, in their ARPG, and every game needs the casual audience to thrive.

Also class balance. From what we can see so far, your experience will vary greatly depending on the class. I always play melee in Souls games, NEVER as INT/FTH caster, but right now I don't think it's worth the trouble to start a warrior/monk.

Also don't forget build diversity should be the most important thing to a game like this, and with the campaign being more tedious and a lot of players reporting loot progression trailing far behind your actual level progression, how are players supposed to test out new skills/ try new builds?

Finally, leagues/seasons. This is fundamental to a live service game, but if the campaign stays like this, who in his/her right mind would want to go through this with multiple characters, let alone every 3-4 months?

I see people who have no idea how to properly plan a char and then complain about dying simply because they're just bad at it.

Period !
D4 did the same thing at first. Since they added the dodge mechanic they felt like it had to be a part of every fight. Dodge or die like the OP said. Once they made the game more like an ARPG and dodge was an option instead of a necessity, the game got 100% better. I raged quit to the boss that comes out of the floor last night. Not because I couldn't beat it, but because it was going to take a perfect try to do so. I can only die so many times to a boss while feeling it is BS and spongy before I need to step away. Also, my builds after the same amount of time in POE1 were much better and had more skills. If the bosses are going to be this spongy and kill you with one move, then they need to be more rewarding. These are the same complaints D4 had, I am baffled why the devs are making the same mistakes.

And the gem skill system is sooooo bad, so now I finally can use Tempest Flurry but I can't since I don't have Level 5 uncut gem to get it... this is hilarious...
"
I really can't understand what they were thinking when some small fire bug in first zone when you go outside of the city literally 1 shot you with little fire ball... I mean for real? I understand POE have to be hard and complicated, but this? Not a single person here can tell me that isn't retard all the way... +

sorry but... bullshit... not a signle enemy except the bosses in first zone one shot you
the fire bugs needs exaclty 3 shtos to kill a level 1 character
You can't cater to everyone. That's alright. Just please don't let PoE 1 wither away.
