Absolutely disapointed -- This game is hard, and not in a fun way.

I was fully expecting some people to try and play this game the same way they played PoE1 instead of engaging with it on its own terms, accepting the fact that it's different and learning to play it all over again. Seems I was right.

I mean, I've seen a steam reviewer complain that he couldn't facetank bosses half an hour in and refund the game.

The game feels just right. It's not too hard in any way, and thus far, every time I have died it was on me, not some bullshit I could do nothing about like in PoE1. If I died - skill issue. As it should be. PoE1 wasn't ANY easier in beta btw, people will eventually find more optimal builds and approaches here too. Which will take time. Despite similarities to its predecessor, this is a new game. Maybe you should treat it as such if you feel like you can't zoom through it as easily as you can in poE1.

PoE 1 beta was much easier than this.

The problem with your point is that you now have alot of players that try different ways and many of these ways dont work at all. Since the sourcing of gems has also changed going back and forth is also not realy getting you anywhere and many ppl get stuck right in the beginning. Its not like they are at some end game boss. So its clear that the learning curve is just way to steep to make sense.

Just to give you an example:
I play as Necro. My minions die alot. Depending on the zone there are some serious AoEs going on easily wiping them out. Not to count in the Bosses with their huge one hit AoEs that simply kill of the minions that just respawn without them even becomming visible. Iam now at LVL17 and the end of Act1 and i spend alot of my time running around around and kiting bosses while i wait for the minions to respawn that simply get wiped within 1-2s.

Now speaking of Bosses i see several Bosses having AoEs centered around players that exceed the dodge distance, which means you have to dodge twice to get out and you often have to do so very quickly to not get hit. on top of that some skills are completely unusable in boss fights. I have Unearth and Raise Zombies which create temporary minions lasting 12 and 20s, but require a corpse. Most bosses i fought through the act dont spawn anything killable so there are no corpses, even worse the Act1 end boss seems to despawn the corpses on the ground once the minion spawn phases end and the time between these phases exceeds the maximum duration.

Things simply dont fall together well and iam pretty sure that there are some builds and approaches that simply dont work out.

+1 Absolutely disapointed, poe2 isn't poe2, its Elden ring on hard difficulty mashed with poe-like clones i.e. Undecember.
Equipment doesn't matter, entire upgrade in act1 was going from 5-7 damage to 10-15 damage, with dps increase by 1%, wtf is this?
Poe1 was fun to play killing monsters left and right - or fixing your build so you can do it anyway, while poe2 is ENDLESS suffering/struggle to survive, excuse me but im not in autistic spectrum of Elden ring loving masochists who enjoy constant suffering
I can't agree more, this game feels so bad, especially if you play as melee. Holy shit they dropped the ball trying to cater to the HARDCORE NO LIFERS, I foresee a repeat of Cataclysm WoW. I've stopped playing the EA after making 2 characters LOL

playing as an elementalist witch I've had 39 deaths and I cant even kill the level 6 boss (im level 9 now) and that is after about 8 hours playing. I'm not sure I'd die this many times in a whole league.

It takes forever to kill anything, gems dont level up, nothing drops including gold. I've had one transmutation drop but it didn't give me anything useful.

I've been playing since open beta and I do recall how hard POE1 was but this is insanely hard when you hit like a wet bus ticket and have no movement skills in all honesty and I'm sick of dodge rolling all the time.

this isn't fun, it also hurts my wrist having to hit the keys so much. I'll try another toon and persevere a bit but I think you might have lost me to both games as I am so, so disappointed and feel totally devastated that something i was so looking forward too hasn't been fun.

The game looks great and lots of good quality improvements but if it isn't fun to play it isn't fun!

People who are not having fun spend nothing on MTX.

Ask Darkfall, or a number of the other "uber hard" games as a service who failed because not enough people want the hard difficulty, ask them how profitable it is to run a service where people are not having fun.

Why can there not be an easier path and a harder path? Is it such a bad thing to make it fun for more people?
I'm done buying anything until we get some clarity on the future of POE1 and POE2 and I know GGG plans to spend effort on a game I want to play.

Tell us if POE1 still has your top tier support or if POE2 will get a mode for more casual play.

So far i enjoy the Game very much, my biggest dislike is the Gem System, the Supports being locked to only one of a kind, goes against the Whole Idea of the System. Difficulty was a Hit and Miss so far, very much gear dependent, What is to be expected. Still think for a good first leveling experience its a bit overtuned, its spongy, to much mandatory rolling arround. Thats Complaining on a high niveau tho, everything else is just realy nicely done.

Have to add to my Previous Statement that as a Bow user i feel like i dont like any of the Skills i get to choose, i basically just defaulted to Poisonburst arrow to stack poison while i dodge arround. I dont even Bother using all the Skill and upgrade Gems atm, Skill gems are Weapontype Bound or demand going more into Strength or Intelligence, Which i already do i play Armor Evasion atm. The second skill i use is Vine Arrow to slow em down. It could get more fun with more support gem slots, so far im up to gem level 7 and still didnt get a third slot *sigh*. Its a drag, it slowly bums me out. I kept Stacking extra Damage on my Bow with Runes and crafting, Level 24 in a level 22 Area and it takes just so long to kill stuff, Im not exited for new Bosses ... i dread the moment i face a Boss cause it'll be another Sponge with Insta Kill Mechanics. I can of course do em, but it slowly gets to the point where i just dont want to engage em. The Loot is mostly White 1-3 items per pack i dot down(mostly 1). I look forward to the first Patches coming in, cause i think it will be alot of needed balancing. I still hope ya all have more Fun then me right now.
Please, stop trying to face tank a boss, this ISN'T PoE 1, almost by definition. Op and a couple other special ones say *too hard*, and here I am in Act 2, died 0 times on the final Act 1 boss, cool fight, not hard or easy, just fine, and died a couple times before that because I was careless. Nothing out of the ordinary. Just another videogame.
It's really starting to grind my nuts the whole *game not piss easy = bad, or bad design* brain rot, just go play Cookie Clicker or something instead of blaming others for not being able to do something that is perfectly doable even for someone like me who's not an ARPG vet or even good at reflex based action combat.

Personally, so far, POE2, difficulty wise, has been a SUBSTANTIAL IMPROVEMENT from PoE 1, a game which I tried to get into several times, but couldn't because it literally puts me to sleep. And no, it's not Dark Souls, please, stop the copium.
+1 OP

I'm halfway through act 1. I think, right now PoE2 isn't my game. I don't like Souls games, and I feel like I play an Isometric Souls game. I do not like this.
I get some D4 vibes with the skills, and it feels not good to me. I disliked D4 and problably will dislike PoE2 if it stays what it is now.

Pros:
- Nice graphics
- slower paced so far that PoE1
- Skill Gem system seems nice
- no more TP Scrolls
- Persistent Minions respawn, I like this idea
- Okayish droprate of currency Items, I was able to craft a tiny bit to get rid of white items

Cons:
- Difficulty ramp up is fine, but it feels too much. Getting one or two shotted from a rare or boss is just no fun for me
- Constant focus is needed, you can't play if you are distracted or tired. Its draining, this might get better later on, but is a turn off in early game for me
- dodge roll is fine, but dependency on it sucks real bad
- Minions AI and enemy targeting feels real bad, whats the point of brittle skelleton decorations named a minion? They get ignored and the mostly defenseless Witch needs to run in circles and rely on dots to scrape by.

I guess, if the game stays in its current direction, it will be no game for me.

I played PoE1 for thousands of hours over the years since 2014. I'm curious how the games path will end up.

It's a fun game, but this isn't Path of Exile. I will play it, but they NEVER should have called it Path of Exile 2. It should have been a completely new, standalone game. Sad. It seems like a really missed opportunity because if they had called it something different and been frank with the difficulty, people would have played it.

ALSO, OMEGALUL if they think I want to slog through the challenging campaign every 3-4 months. I don't see how "leagues" will be as appealing in this game unless they add some insane power to blast through the tedious acts.
